seriously spooky S***

i was doing some practice this evening and pulled out rightmires flamenco book, and started looking through it and spotted a peternera,

curious as to what it sounds like i started going through the piece, just as i played the the opening sequence in time, a piece of coal in my fire litterally exploded and sent a piece out so far it knocked the fire guard over and the burning ember onto the floor.

i nearly soiled my kegs!!! ;

ive promptly put the book away and swore never to dabble with that piece as long as i live.

i never believed in this stuff before but this was too friggin eery to be a coincidence

maybe.... it was a pocket of gas somehow trapped in your coal
(which i can only expect to be bituminous or anthracite, probably not lignite).... as is probable to happen with coal, as many miners will tell you....... and it spontaneously expanded due to excessive heating...... this is likely to occurr in lit fireplaces.......

thus increasing pressure and causing a sudden decompression upon failure of the structural integrity of the chamber resultant in the gases rapidly expanding outward from the coal.... which as newton discovered will casue an equal force in the opposite direction of the expansion.... propelling the coal out of the fire with a force great enough to knock over the screen.....

But of course, that's only if you believe in that silly physics stuff.

We all know that myths and bad luck govern this universe, and that by playing certain flamenco palos you can cause your own ultimate demise........

what, ar eyou kidding?

I actually made all of those faces while i was clicking on them.... i would never be as ingenuine as to use a smiley face graphic indicating a face which i did not make in reality!!!!!!!!!

lol, as bizarre as that sounds its almost 99 percent true. except for the onther 99 percent when its 100 percent false.....

you're explanation of this spooky event is very good Hemeolaman. Eloquent, well structured and with plenty of supporting evidence, but fundamently incorrect. It is all rather convenient! you have been reading too much scientific american.
A pocket of gas in a piece of coal would have to be pretty big to produce the kind of pressure required to propel said piece of coal any distance at all. If such a hollow were present in a lump of coal it would undoubtedly be destroyed during the mining process. Another problem with your theory is the improbable trajectory ( of all the possible positions of the coal in the pile, and of all the possible orientations of the coal, it was in exactly the right state to cause a projectile motion intersecting the screen ).

The only logical explanation is that a passing duende or as I call them, flamenco fairy's, heard henries playing and thought it had found its next meal,( they eat well-played musical notes). It flew down his chimney only to find its path blocked by a screen. Undettered it knocked over the screen with the piece of coal, scaring the bejeesus out of henry and ruining its supper.

god, I can't believe I typed all that out, I now know that I am a saddo!

Hemeolaman, no one likes someone who acts like they know what they're talking about but are just spouting stuff out their asses. I'm a physics major (well, astrophysics) and I can tell you for a fact that the Lagrange-Euler equation CLEARLY states that:

Where q is the generalized variable.

Duh.

I love this story, I always have weird great moments when no one is around to see it or hear it myself, especially those dark spiritual moments when you would swear the Gods are speaking to you or just letting you know that they are there.

I guess it doesn't matter, in the scope of things, just as long as we all understand our own humor!
