Oscar Herreo played a pair of solos in the swedish morning television program (TV 4 nyhetsmorgon). Quite nice stuff.. but what cracks me up is the presentation: "Spaniens bästa flamencogitarrist drar av en flamenco" - translated: The best flamenco guitarist in spain performs a flamenco.
anyway.. you can see the performance on the web at http://www.tv4.se/nyhetsmorgon/ just click the red play buttons at his picture (the site will update tomorrow, so the links will move someplace else).
he least they could have done is added a 'probably' like the Carlsberg ads!! Even then that is a bit of an outrageous claim.
heh, yeah. the politically correct presentation would probably be something like "one of the great flamenco guitarists of spain performs sevillanas, arranged for solo guitar" but then... where's the fun in that. i don't actually know much about oscar, except his didactic work, in which he looks a bit sad, as if he really wants a cookie.. he's a very competent guy though. i like the singer he plays with in his videos, paco pozo.. he reminds me of an omelette.
@ricardo you're a talented fellow, but you need to pay attention to the circles and dots above the a, to produce the correct tone.
@duende är du i stan? ska du se oscar? jag har inte råd.. har lagt alla pengar på lektioner.

I mentiond to Erik(steen) that Oscar would play at södra Teatern and Erik seemed pissed and no im not going Stockholm is a cross the whole f***** country its enough to see Paco in uppsala.
i think oscar sounds like a "school book" -this is solea ex 2B etc very polished it realy is like classical music with a touch of flamenco
...now when i said that lets hope this thred wont turn into a "juan Martin" 24 week long thred
ps paco is next weekend. we should say hello ...and i dont even know what you look like

mrMagenta When Jose Antonio Rodriguez (Paco de Lucia student) was preforming in Croatia the announcement was that in country is coming "the greatest flamenco virtuoz". This is so silly. But this is just a commercial signs with which they want to get a lot of audience.
Regarding the Oscar Herrero.

It's clear that you don't know much about him, because the songs that he plays is not sevillanas, but Rumba (1) and Taranta por buleria (2) 2 videos that I saw on Sweeden NetTv. I take his side, because when living in country without flamnco teacher - any flamenco didactic material is usefull - perhaps he issued one of the best (with nice explanation) Hope you understand.
RE: Oscar Herrero - duende (in reply to mrMagenta)
yeah, i'm all for his didactic stuff as well. he's good, and seems well respected in spain as well. he sat in the jury for the certamen de guitarra flamenca thing in jerez.
sorry for getting the style wrong, i wasn't paying too close attention and what i remembered from it, it had some resemblance to sevillanas.
@duende it's next weekend! wow, time flies.. yeah, we ought to meet. heh, perhaps i can upload a picture of myself someplace on the foro tomorrow.
btw, sometime i'll be taking a trip to gbg, i'm looking forward to book lessons with Emil and Magnus.
RE: Oscar Herrero - duende (in reply to mrMagenta)
your doing double lessons?! i had one with Emil a few weeks ago. He showed me a thumb exersice ans i asked for Tarantas /-os verse chords and some tanguillos

hmm double lessons? i mean one teacher present at one time.. but i have had two double lessons recently, with patrik and ellen, together with a friend who is a singer. i might upload something in the audio section, it would be nice to see what the foro makes of her singing..
i haven't actually heard magnus play, but ellen recommended him for learning old school stuff, and i'm all for that sort of thing. emil strikes me as very knowledgeable and technical, so it would be great to get his perspective on things as well. he fired of some pretty nice tarantas at a lecture here last saturday, and he was really fine indeed when he and ellen performed a vidalita on their proper show (and not just because of his yummy tomatito hairdo). :)
it would be fun to have a lesson with you as well. there are tons of things you could help me with. i could bring my pjs. :D
RE: Oscar Herrero - duende (in reply to mrMagenta)
that's really generous. i'd be happy to stop by. i can't really say when i'm heading down yet, because i'm in a bit of a financial rut, but it's definetly on the agenda.
if you ever spend time in stockholm you're of course free to stop by for tea, flamenco and a few rounds of guitarhero. :)
RE: Oscar Herrero - duende (in reply to mrMagenta)
Hey, why don't you both take a trip to my place. It's only 60 km between Borås and where I live and we could have some coffee and try my guitars. I have a new one I really would like to have your opinion on as well as seing Henrik's Anders guitar. Weird to write in english to two Swedish guys.
RE: Oscar Herrero - duende (in reply to mrMagenta)
it takes 1 hrs from Göteborg. 10min (walking) from the centrum 15-20min form the trainstation then theres a buss or something if we wanna go to Per for a visit.
i dont have a drivers licens. im actually taking it now at 32. but we have a car since my girlfriend has a licens. it might be easyer to go from göteborg straigt to Per in Gråbo.
we´ll see what happens ok. :-))
im going to uppsala by train and its about 900kr back and forth the plane was 800 but with the airbuss im at 900kr anyway and since i only fly when im not somber i take the train

RE: Oscar Herrero - duende (in reply to mrMagenta)
No offence to him but I attended his solo recital last year and found it far too tame sounding. As mentioned, almost classical-like with a touch of flamenco. And of course it was the last thing I wanted to listen to.
