Latest Flamenco Albums

Hey, I was wondering what people on the foro are listening to of late.

I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to albums.

All through my life I have continually over played my favourite albums, and whilst the joy I get from listening is fulfilling, I ultimately end up with albums that I can no longer listen to.

I know this is quite common too.

Any suggestions for good flamenco albums?
Which cd's have you guys had in your players this month??

Stu

Nice one henry. I love that moraito album. As for the others I'll add them to the list.

i try to listen to different things all the time so i don't get bored with my favorites, sometimes i don't succeed though :)

lately i've been listening to Paco Fernandez's Sastipén Talí which is a very-very-very good album, León's Sirimusa, El Viejín's Algo Que Decir and Leyenda by JA Rodríguez...among others, of course, but these stand out...

Great thread Stu! When I go into a store in Spain where there are hundreds of CDs I never know where to start, so a few recommendations are really helpful. Of course you can even learn from listening to stuff that's not brilliant, as long as you know it's not brilliant!

At the moment I'm listening to loads of old stuff on vinyl that my teacher has lent me. It's stuff that has mostly never been remastered and put onto CD, so unfortunately you can't go out and buy them. The recording quality is not what you expect now, but in a way it feels more immediate - it's really raw because it's not been through loads of production in a studio.

got this new album i am listening to atm Santiago Lara : El Sendero De Lo Imposible (Flamenco guitar)

its quite great, but u might not notice it the first 3 times you listen to it, like everything else , i had to keep relistening and it grew on me alot.

there is a great bulerias and alegrias on it.

but in the car atc i like listening to singing so here are some of my favs, Cante/Guitar albums in no peticular order

La Tana - Tu Ven a Mi
Arcángel first album
DUQUENDE samaruco
Del amanecer 1999 ( a classic)
EL PELE &VICENTE AMIGO 2003
Guadiana's first album
MONTSE CORTES Albanza
Secundo falcon
Remedios Amaya 1997 Me Voy Contigo
Juaneke

theres alot more but i cant think atm. I also love the bulerias in Emilio Maya's solo album Cazuela Pa'1500 and all the tracs with cante in Jesus de Rosario solo album so i made my own folder with all the fav cante stuff from guitar solo cds.

* Juan Carmona - Sinfonia Flamenca - really interesting vibe on that album
* Jose Antonio Rodriguez - Live In Concert 2007 - comes with DVD as well

would like to get hold of JM Canizares Albeniz album just out of curiosity &
possibly the Santiago Lara album - snippets on the web sound good in terms of the musicality and sound quality - always ready to give a "new" player a chance and play their work a few times before giving the verdict. I think having recorded flamenco guitar makes you realise, first hand, how difficult and intruding the recording studio is so I have respect for anyone producing an album.

in terms of shopping in person for albums, El Corte Ingles Flamenco section in Malaga is the best in my experience, although the Web has overtaken it probably.

quite often to hear the best guitar playing, ironically, you need to listen to Cante albums or some of those compilation albums

Somewhat new to flamenco so I'm catching up, so a lot of stuff both old and new! These days I'm listening to a lot of Emilio Maya's album (best bulería de Jerez ever!), Morente's "Omega" with Lagartija Nick, Jose Merce's "Lio", and about last week I discovered Indialucía which I'm listening to all the time! Oh, and that guy Camaron con some other guy Tomatito, their disc Paris 1987 (live) is on heavy rotation too
