To be honest I dont think there will be much difference soundwise. They are both excellent woods. It depends on the quality of the set. Palo Escrito can be very openpored and with lots of knots. Its also difficult to get. Right now I only know LMI and the set I once bought from them wasn´t good.

I have some Panama rosewood, which looks a lot like Palo escrito, its just a lot better quality.

On the other hand, Madagascar rosewood, which is an excellent tonewood is getting scarce and what is offered for sale lately is not very recommendable.

The whole rosewood situation (except Indian rosewood) is poor. Lots of bad quality wood, lots of cheating etc.

Take a look at Malaysean Blackwood. Thats nice wood. Good taptone. Beatifull expensive looking and very well cut.
