Flamingo is my life, but is much deeper than that, i love the sombreros and fans, and red shirts and castanets and the sangria.

And its great because its very exotic and people always sound impressed when i tell them i play flamingo guitar.

And i dont like the screaming but i like the dancers and the wodden box ( all my friends say they could do that).

I envy you Flo.
I'm with Henrik. It can be a real pain.
Sometimes it all seems so aimless.

I feel like a soldier who's learning to fight and shoot, but there's never a real war going on.

this was all just last year, i think i played along like a nice member with all of them but no more i am boring myself repeating the same thing:

What is the essence of flamenco

What is your deep and personal interest in flamenco

Flamenco Puro

no disrespect to you Gato

Flamenco for me, expresses the tragical and dramatical excistence of men, with all it's joy and sadness. I see it as an expression of how humans experience there life. This what real music should do and that's why most of us live flamenco and not just hear it. But indeed the music is very difficult en hard to listen to for a long time. But man what a joy if you, for some reason, had to miss your flamenco recordings and than hear them again.....

Flamenco is also a very powerfull something and lots of aficionado's around the world have to experience it alone, that's very frustrating imo. (I'm from belgium by the way )

Just..Humanity I suppose...
I find that when it gets too fancy, it loses that feeling and morphs into something else.

My opinion only!

cheers,

Ron

flamenco is like one of those things like space or something :-)

like " Where is the end " and what is stopping it ? and what is behind whats stoping it ?

RE: FLAMENCO IS! (in reply to ToddK

I heard this on shortwave radio about 35 years ago...

www.btinternet.com/~flamenco/TerremotoMorao.wma

And my chin just dropped!
I'd never heard anything like it before...
(I thought it was maybe Arabic or something)

This was the first Flamenco I'd ever heard.

Since then, I've never lost THAT sound in my head.
Morao is a tremendous guitarist IMO.

It encouraged me to buy a nylon string guitar and try to search for THAT sound!

But it kept moving...with Paco...Tomatito etc.

Great Artists, but THAT sound is the one that means most to me...

Terremoto and Morao...

Ah! ...my final Desert Island Disc..

cheers,

Ron

Sorry gato..

Again no direspect, and i dont wanna speak for anyone other than myself but man we have covered that subject to death, only too recently.

I think we need about 6 months still just to recover from the arguments and hurt feelings and name callings

dont let the polite conversation foul you, this place is pretty wild.

just hang around for the next Juan Martin thread and cancel your daily activities, its great, its like a car accident, you dont wanna see it but you cant look away

Yeah, instead of what "Flamenco IS", this thread has turned out to be what "Flamenco ISNT".

Did someone already say it's leaving your homeland forever, having only your (extended) family to rely on, living in squalor and being persecuted under a fsacist regime, being treated as a subhuman outsider and finding solace in folk music? Sorry if they did, don't mean to flog a dead horse

Yeah, Bash, don't you just hate it when people play Granaínas or Tarantas or some other 'toque libre', and call it flamenco? So annoying!
