Does anybody know of some software, preferably free, that can convert YouTube files to DVD files for playing on a TV? Thanks for any thoughts on the subject.

Don't know about TV but this one will save the videos in a format that you can play on the computer. It will also extract the audio if you want. It's free:

thanks for the replies guy's. I've used the vixy converter and it does save the file with .avi extension so I'm looking for a way convert it so its playable on a TV for several reasons. Its not really worth it at this time to pay $50. It would just be nicer to see it on a larger screen than the computer. I've got the same question out to some people that may know and I'll pass it on if they can help.

Be aware that when you take a youtube video and you stretch it (technical term in this case, is "scale up") to fit the tv screen it will look very poor. Most free applications do not have upscalers which are pretty complex. If you do decide to do it via the "free" way, this is the process:
1) Get the youtube video onto the computer. 2) If you accomplished #1 with the free app from vixey then you have to re-encode it to mpeg2 which is the DVD format 3) Burn to DVD disc.v

Gux,
I have Nero 6.614 and I see no option that suggests I can burn avi files to a DVD. It will burn onto a DVD the audio portion of the avi but not the video. Could tell me if this is what you've done or are you getting the video as well. If so, what option are you using.

Gux,
Thanks this was helpful. It appears that my version of start smart, 2.1.05, doesn't include NeroVision expressSE. so the option "make your own DVD" isn't an option.
