Flamenco Master creation

Ron, Just wondered how you went about designing Flamenco Master, how and were did you get the templates from, have you studied software design at Uni? Its an amazing and inspired piece of software that I find invaluable, thank god you thought of it. It must have been a real headache to create it.

Well, thanks Dave! No, I'm not Uni trained. I got interested in programming when the BBC micro came out in the early 80's, so I'm just self taught.
The only computer language I knew a bit of was Basic, but then Visual Basic came out which was very different. So I bought Visual Basic 5 and started playing around with it.
I couldn't get my head around it at first, so I made up a few simple games and stuff over the months, but my main goal was to make a software version of a hardware box I'd built a couple of years before using timers, 12 LEDs, 12 switches and a speed control.
It just made a "click" sound though.
So that's it!
It really cheers me, that you find it useful!
I use it all the time myself to work out stuff and practise etc.

Do you know if F.M. will work on XP? If not, do you plan on writing it for that platform?

The demo copy works fine on XP so it should be OK.

Hi Scott,
I dunno! LOL! I thought all Windows operating systems were supposed to be backwards compatible?
Easiest way to find out is download the Demo. If that works then you'll be OK!
I'm afraid my programming days are over now, got fed up burning the midnight oil and pulling my hair out!

Its a similar situation with me and Cubase Ron, It just aint worth burning the midnight oil just to record the odd peice of Guitar.

Backward comptable? That is a marketing claim to sell product! Each version of windows is unique and provides many hours of "enjoyment". DOS/16 bit/32 bit - lots of differences. Windows 286, 386, 3.0, 3.11, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT (all versions), Windows 2000 and Windows XP. They are all different. I like XP as it is the most stable but it does strange things! Networking, handling data and comptability with existing applications are always issues.

Backward comptability - if the the latest greatest version does not work as advertised there will surely be a service pack down the road. It might take one year or more. And if a service pack does not do the trick, just wait for the next outstanding version of Windows (or any Microsoft product).

Microsoft is about visions and I think they smoke funny things to obtian the desired result.

VB 5 & 6 are usually pretty good - depends on service calls to superceded APIs.

never understood why people upgrade to XP, 98 does everything you want, also XP is totaly different, doc folders, setting folders are in a different place, also takes an age to load at start up,.

It's fully 32-bit multi-tasking, built on the proven NT code base i.e. it crashes less and more gracefully

XP Pro is my favorite OS. It is rock solid (I have not had a crash since I bought it one year ago). I am a heavy duty user and program to make a living. It works fine with all my audio hardware and software.

My Win 98 machine crashes several times a week. Katy's win 2000 crashes about once a month.

XP loads fast, loads apps fast and when you want to shut down, you do not have to wait for very long.

What do you mean by crash, Win98 rarley crashes, when It does, like if I'm running FMaster and Word at same time, that is due to RAM or CPU strengh is it not? and is simply remeded by closing down the application.

Reasons for crashing are basically due to poor design and coding. There are two versions of Win 98, Win 98 and Win 98 SE, and I have the latest one, with the latest Service Packs and patches. The original version would crash several times a day, which in a professional environment is not acceptable.

You pay more for NT 4.0, Win 2000 and Win XP because a lot more care (people hours) went into the products and they reflect this by costing more.

One basic problem with Win 98 (so much better than Win 95, etc.) is a less than ideal means of memory management. Add to that third party software, hardware, I/O, BIOS ROM, drivers and you can and will have problems.

By the way my machine has one gig of memory so that is not a problem, and I know my Intel CPU works fine.

and by the way... XP will scream on the same platform, compared to Win98 SE. XP is more stable, considerably faster, true multitasking, 32-bit addressing, more functionality (compressed file support, CD writing, digital media management etc.) and much prettier. - advert over, again
