Funny but...

It's funny but, on reading the very long thread that involves whether Flamenco is fusion or is traditional etc on FT, it's funny to see a lot of the contributors hark back to their Rock days or Punk days.
Flamenco is without a doubt, a very rebellious music.
Maybe not in a a political sense, but in an individual sense?
Is that what attracts so many foreign aficionados?
I'm struggling hard on a falseta at the moment, that is so weird, I could have never written it or even thought of it in a month of Sundays! LOL!
The accents are in all the wrong places (to my Western ear) and the phrasing starts and stops all over the compás.
Truly this guy knows bulerias compas in the same way you or I would tap their feet to for a favourite Rock number.
I feel I have no right playing it actually.
I think THIS is the difference. Really!
This is what makes it so hard.
I think non-flamencos try to integrate flamenco into the music they already are familiar with, try to see it in terms of what they know already.
Flamencos just play flamenco....that's why they are so damn good at it!

Well, there you have it Ron. You're using the wrong ear. Try using the one on the opposite side of your head which, of course, would be your Eastern ear.

I agree Ron, I'm learning a Rafiel Riqueni Buleria Peurto Cameronero, which I'll post when I feel comfortable with, but some of the falsetas are so weird in the left hand, I honestly don't know why he did it in that way, or what kind of thought process went into it. Because playing the music is like punching a punch bag, gets rid of frustration it attracts lots of people from around the world. I think you have to keep pushing yourself by learning more complex stuff, only when Its ingrained in you brain, can you attempt years down the line, or never at all to compose, your own stuff. Composing is really just re gurgitating, what you all ready know.

Well, Ron, don't feel bad, if you were around flamenco 4 or 5 or 6 days a week, I'm sure you'd be just good as this Saddam guy you've been raving about. :)
