Way off topic, but I think Marty has the weirdest most uncomfy looking picking technique I have ever seen. But he is really good. If you look through youtube you can find a long vid of Marty and Paul Gilbert having a "war" on one Japanese tv show. Hilarious. They have to see who knows more Kiss riffs and stuff. They try to "stump" each guy with famous 80's riffs, a-Z I think letters of the alphabet or something. Marty Speaks Japanese WAY better then paul, and seemed to be winning the game. I can't remember it was a while ago I saw that.

Marty is an interesting player. If anyone has an electric guitar pupil his vid melodic control is about the best to get shredders think about harmony instead of one scale for a whole song. He also has an interesting take on playing outside which gives his playing a reall interesting personal feel. He never seemed to sort out his picking but it's working for him.

I read a thing where Steve said that when you are soloing you start with the **** meter on 10 and your job is to get it back down to as low as possible. For me he stayed on ten here, nothing but riffs and licks, no breathing and no outlining of harmony or any other ideas.

Here's a link to that war. It's pretty cool.

AWESOME clips, thanks for posting! Marty ROCKS, I remember being blown away by the original solo in Holy Wars... one of the things that first got me into metal. But I'm sorry... NO-ONE is allowed to wear LEATHER trousers unless they play like Paul Gilbert or Marty Friedman...
