I would say pay pall is a good thing but the money will be transferred before you get the guitar and i think you will not find another way of doing this. You just have to trust the person involved.
either you buy it from something or someone you know or ebay or something.

I think this is the only way.
I had no problems with paypall. they have sites that are connected to your country like for belgium it's www.paypall.be

Nope... My waiting list is not that long. At this moment around 6 - 7 month.

I´m not really sure I understan what you are talking about. What kind of risk are you talking about? Risk of the money disappearing or that you wont like the instrument.

I find that PayPal is good for smaller sums, but it gets a bit expensive when the the sum is high. (Paypal charges around 4%)
In general I work with Banktransfers, which are completely safe, and I´ve never had any problems. Some banks are very expensive thouigh, so ask around. I remember a Scottish bank which was extremely expensive.

In that case the luthier would be taking a huge risk - what if you the customer did not pay up for some reason? When you buy anything from another country it is quite normal to pay first, then you get your goods. Also, luthiers stand or fall by their reputation - if they didn't honour a deal, news would get out FAST.

Or are you talking about buying privately? If that's the case, look into escrow where the money is held in trust by a third party. You can do this on ebay and I think you can do it via Paypal.

Or find someone in that country to buy the guitar on your behalf (paying their expenses of course). The Internet is very useful for this.
