Amalio Burguet

Can anyone with first hand experience tell me about his guitars , I know there's a range of different models right up to the AB model, but in general terms, are they good to own and play?
Cheers
Jim.

Jim, I think these are very nice guitars. Even his student models are good values for the money. Both the 1F and 2F. The ABF is his top of the line made by him.

If you were to get one I don't think you'd be disappointed. He has 6 different flamenco models to choose from depending on your price range.

I'm assuming you've been to his website but in case you haven't, here's the URL.

Jim,
Actually, Rafael's main guitar (and the one used in "Mezquita") is a Burguet Negra I think 1975. I would assume it was the top end model of it's day.
It's a fairly heavy guitar in comparison to something like your Ramirez which was probably 25% lighter than the 1A I owned myself!
I liked his guitar, very soft to the touch, low action, but no matter how hard you played it, would never "bottom out". I found the neck very thick though.
Nice tone and balance, but (as I've said before) didn't make me sound any better.
No magic qualities. But I definitely enjoyed playing on it.
I remember it as being an immediately "friendly" guitar.
I hinted if he fancied selling it, but he's had it all his life really, so I could see why he wanted keep it!
Whether all the top end Burguet guitars are like that?
Well who knows? Just got to try 'em and find out!

cheers

Ron

Ron,
Rafeals guitar sounds great, I guess it's this thing about those 'Magical Qualities' you mention, so elusive and really down to the player.
Cheers

It arrived this afternoon, goes back tomorrow morning sharp, it's a beast!
Flamenco f2, negra peghead. Heavy, dull and plastic sound. Yugh!
Cheers

Hey Jim,
Is it really as bad as that? I know that Rafael's didn't sound as bright or responsive as any of your guitars, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
It just takes adjustment of your technique, in the same way as I'm having to readjust to the brighter response of the Bernal. Some stuff I play on it sounds good to my ear, but other stuff sounds better on my old Brazilian one.
I know it's just because I can't "drive" it properly yet due to lack of experience.
Maybe you should hang on to it for a few days and try to listen to it without comparing it to your others?
Maybe post a little sound sample?

cheers

Ron

Wow. Didn't think it would be that bad. Where did you get it? I'm surprised you found one with pegs. Do they have the F1 or ABF you can try

Hey Ron. When did you get the Bernal? Which model?

Tom,
I know the owner of the London Guitar Studio and he sent it up for me to try.
I just wanted an every day guitar that I could have sitting on the stand and not worry too much about.
The trouble however, is that it would have to be that rare combination of being inexpensive yet good to play, otherwise it would be a waste of time having it.
Juan said it was good and quite rare being a negra peghead, so I thought it was worth a try, but not to be
Incidentally, I'm sure Amalio's top guitars are very good, just this one feels dead and lumpy and too heavily varnished.
Cheers
Jim.

Hi Tom,
It's the "Sueño" model. I bought it from Jim when he was up a month or so ago.
It has a nice sound, but a lot of left hand "zizz" and right hand nail clicks come through since it's much brighter and responsive than my old guitar which had to be played much harder, so masked the odd light clicks and stuff.
So I'm working on reducing the force I normally use, but it takes a while to get out of old habits. (smoking..LOL!)
I am a great believer in getting to know the instrument and eventually playing "with" it rather than "on" it.
So that'll take a bit of time.
As I said in my last post, Rafael's Burguet was less bright and required harder playing, but nevertheless sounded very good and I could adjust to very quickly.
Also I tried a Arcangel Fernandez belonging to Paco Peña and it was the same.
However Paco also had a Gerundino along with him (his stage guitar) and that was very loud and bright!
So who knows?
I think everybody looks for the guitar that fits them like a glove, really comfortable, requires no change of technique, and sounds brilliant.
And that can be pretty difficult to find.
However the Bernal is a great guitar with a LOT of potential once I can get used to it!

cheers

Ron
