Aye..Qué Día!!

Here in the N.East of Scotland we are in the middle of a force 11 Gale, with horizontal sleet and snow!
The TV aerial has just blown down and I have sprained both of my wrists fitting a new door seal to the washing machine! Qué día!
Never mind, my favourite meal is coming up tomorrow.
Wild grouse, lightly killed and marinaded in fresh mountain thyme, lemon and a touch of malt whiskey. Oven roast until golden brown.

Wishing all my amigos here Buenas Bulerías and Felíces Falsetas para 2004!

(and a' ra best tae Jim in Glasgow!)

cheers

Ron

Ron,
stay off those wrists. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope the weather clears up soon. I noticed haggis isn't up there on your list of favorites?

Ron,

Mind you, I’m a red neck from Oregon, but what is “lightly killed”? In my part of the world, when we kill a bird, it’s killed!

Ron;

Like Pat asked, what is "lightly killed"? Is that anything like, "I want my eggs over easy"?

My dad was raised in Ukiah, Oregon. A good source for meat is what they term, “road kill”. Some animal stepped in front of a moving vehicle and became eligible for someone’s dinner. There is a restaurant named Dan’s with two menus. “Wild” Road Kill, includes squirrel, and such and “Domestic” Road Kill includes Poodle with Noodles, and similar dishes.

Have a good evening and new year.

I've never had grouse and I'm sure it's quite good, but I prefer that any animal on my dinner plate be 'heavily killed'. 'Lightly killed' sounds like it might be still moving. But I've never been to Scotland and I'm not familiar with the culinary customs there.

Ron;

If all else fails drink the Malt Whiskey and go to McDonalds for a Big Mac! Ah, for a bit of Old Bushmills!

By the way we are about to have our second big storm in a week. I hope the weather people are "all wet"!

LOL!! It was just a joke, something I heard on Monty Python years ago, where they were trying to copy the "prissy" and over the top descriptions of food used by some Chefs on their menus.
"Lightly killed" sounds so much more delicate, like great care has been taken in the preperation of the bird. (Hence they can add another $20 onto the price LOL!).

Unlike the "Hell's Angels" special of unplucked chicken soaked in a bucket of beer and consumed with no further preperation. "Au Natural" I think is the posh term.

cheers

Mike,
The Haggis hunting season doesn't start here until the second week in January.
As you know, they have one leg shorter than the other for running round mountains, and they're very fast wee buggers.
So you've got to be pretty fit to catch a good one!

cheers
