To Simon the scribe

Simon.

Just read your report on Geronimo Maya on deflamenco. Excellent presentation and knowlegable with a nice touch of humour. You are becoming one of my favourite writers. Well done (((-:

Hey Simon, really enjoyed the article, funny, informative and even lyrical. I think you might have a book in you, you could write a better ' In seach of Duende" writing like this, reviewing flamenco as oposed to exaggerating stories of a flamenco life. Of course you'd have to come to Spain to do it :)

I'm also really enjoying Pedoviejo's life stories. There's another book there as well.

ps Getting an amzing response from UK venues re Taller de Compás. So far Birmingham, Lancs, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Whitby, Bath. Windsor, various independant promoters, London, Swindon, Sidmouth and Bracknell. Even the Barbican replied though they've booked up this year but hey maybe next year or if they really like it they said they may fit us in. Am spending a fortune copying videos, printing reviews, buying envelopes etc and should have everything in the post just in time for the Christmas postal strike ;) Will keep you posted.

That crossed my mind too, if he would like to get in touch with me, maybe we could pull something together?

Bracknell! Now you're talking just up the road from me and home to the Berkshire Guitar Society, they get very little flamenco so please bring Emilio.

Sounds very promising, if you want any help, let me know, I can recce some venues and hand out leaflets if you want. I'll put it out on the Microsoft staff email etc.

I could also do you a review for deflamenco (but you have to put me on the guest list with a "plus one" at the door ).

You know, I'd quite like that for a stage name... El Escribano If it's not something rude.
OK... back on my head.

Yep I already decided to hold the promo pack until I had copies of Emilio's press cuttings and have made come CDroms of Hechizo de Agua, his show with Ana Calí. Might as well offer up the whole package and save on postage. If they book both shows we just have to hire a bigger bus. I'll let you know what I hear from the venues and could definitely do with promotion help , handing out leaflets, tell your friends, arm twisting works well anything to get bums on seats. We did very well in the US getting large audiences but most festivals were free of charge which probably had something to do with it. And yes we'll have you on the guest list plus one and a review would be great and what about a party back at your place

I'll try and get the local paper to run a teaser the preceeding week.

Now you really are talking. I could probably put up 7-8 people if you want to save on hotels? Assuming we go to sleep, of course How big is the troupe?

There's 6 in the band and there'll be me and Harold so 8 altogether. If we add Emilios cast for Hechizo de Agua we're talking another 8. But I doubt any venue will be abel to afford a double bill, so I may think of two seperate tours if we prove theres an audience.

A party would be great, as would saving on hotel bills, as would some real Spanish food that;s what everyone missed in the States. In Toronto we went to an excellent Spanish restaurant where everything was paid for by the other party guests and we ate and drank as much as we could before the place closed ( bars closing is a strange concept for flamencos).

Publicity is something I shall have to do a lot of, so anything the UK flamencos on this forum can do will be greatly appreciated and rewarded. Quite frequently the venues just dont know how to promote flamenco. In Toronto we got in touch with the flamenco schools who basically spread the word and the place was sold out, depite the promoter saying he couldn't pay us much as we were an unknown band. So yes newspaper stuff is great, you have full permission to sell our story, poor young Gypsies from the ghetto make it good in America, now coming to UK etc. I've got an article in the magazine Exploring Spain coming out in February I think. Anyway I'll send you the press cuttings we have just in case you can write something. The place in Bracknell is the South Hill Park Arts Centre, do you know it, how many does it seat ? If you have any way of finding out how much they are prepared to pay acts it would be interesting. Money is always the last thing talked about, first I spend a fortune getting promo packs in the post before we talk dirty. I spent ages on one festival only to find out later they didn't pay any of their artists. How do people live ?????

Thanks for the support Simon
Kate
