Brave new world

Arrested was Masami Toyoda, of Tokyo's Nerima-ku. He has reportedly admitted to the allegations against him.

Investigators accuse Toyoda of illegally performing 33 songs such as the Beatles' songs "Here, There and Everywhere" and "Yesterday," whose copyrights are managed by the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers.

Looks like we will soon all be locked up as criminals ...

Thats insane!

A pro flamenco guitarist from my area would sometimes perform Vicnete's Morente at a restaurant where he giged. He would have the restaurant pop in a flamenco cd that he brought between sets. One night, a person from BMI watching the show told the owner of the joint that they would have to pay a monthly service fee for the rights to play the cd's AND for the music the guitarist was performing. LOL

Maybe he was selling a CD with a Beatles' tunes on them without first getting liscening? Never heard of that, N

Great isnt it? and if you record any cover of for example vicente amigo you have to pay a "mechanical licence"

And I bet its even illegal to upload your own version of any flamenco piece on youtube, i dont know if google takes care of that fee or if we would be liable.
