does sombody know this luthier (juan miguel carmona) from granada? I'm looking for a flamenco guitar and one of his guitars is being sold. a guitar from 2003, without any numbering (is this normal?) ,the owner says it is a '1a model ' (but also this is not written on the label in the guitar).The owner has no verification paper although he bought this guitar from the luthier himself. he asks 3500 euro's? Is there someone that can help me?

IMO you would be better off buying a new handmade one for less money from a guitar maker like this one Anders
Rather than buying a secondhand guitar for loads of money, which you are unsure about its history., get one made for half the price...that is if you want to play it.
Dont worry about the guitar not saying 1A. Thats normal. I dont write 1A or something like that. Sometimes I´ve made a 2A and this I´ve written on the label or I´ve made 2 special guitars and called them Especial something. The rest are just my best effort in making as good a guitar as possible and thats the normal way for handbuilders. I build around 10 guitars a year, so no need for a lot of models etc. This we leave to the production guys.
The label should be signed of course. 3500,- euros sound like a correct price for a new Carmona in 2003. Juan Miguels guitars normally have what is called a Sevillana rosette. No mosaic or wood inlays, just circles, mostly black and white.
thank you all for these lots of usefull information. After the week-end i will surf the web for further investigation. It seems so strange to me to order an instrument on the web in a shop or direct from a luthier without having the possibility to play on it. that's why i prefer buying this instrument that i can touch, hear and feel. But i must say that the guitars build by anders eliasson seem very attractive to me, for a good price. A pity that it is so far away.

Nealf I dont really know. Ask him yourself. I know that Juanmi likes flamenco, but what you build depends on the market. But for sure, Juanmi knows what a good flamenco guitar is.
I called in to see him in his workshop in Granada a few years ago. He had a very nice negra for sale. Otherwise, all as Anders said, coincentric rings for a rosette and very much a maker who knows about flamenco guitars. 3500 euros seems right so long as you like the guitar and are happy with it.
