One of the coolest buleria I got is a Buleria with Roman Vicenti and Raul el Perla accompanying el canastero and jose valencia. F#&$^@g amazing.
Romerito,
What CD/DVD is that Roman Vicente track on? Florian mentioned Roman Vicente a while ago... I liked his playing style, but as far as I know, he has no album out yet. I think he's been touring with Farruquito recently...

¡Si esto no está en compas, esto no es el Flamenco!
Those old movies where obviously speed up. Not sure if it was ONLY to seem more impressive, but maybe to match sound and video performances which were different. Anyway, lots of flamenco guitar recordings, and recordings in general, are speed up. Sometimes it is to make a player seem impressive (like Sabicas, Juan Serrano or Paco), and other times just because some reel to reel machines ran a little slow when recording. (Like Miles Davis Kind of Blue). The only proof I have that Paco has sped up a recording is the Live Friday Night in Sanfrancisco which is a quarter tone sharp on record. The vid I uploaded on Youtube is standard pitch and a hair slower. I suspect the same on many flamenco guitar recordings where the pitch is a bit sharp and the playing very speedy. Of course I dont' mean to imply Paco CAN'T play that fast or sabicas, it is just that I suspect they DIDn't on certain recordings.
I don't think I could nail down five fave cds, but one standout is "Dos Gritos de Libertad". It's the album recorded after the first prison cante contest in Spain ten years ago. Intense stuff. The two cantaores are Jose Serrano and Antonio Agujetas. This album kicks ass! Miguel Ochando and Rafael Trenas on toque. I think flamenco-world has it.
Here are 5 guitar CDs that are kind of interesting, its maybe not my favorite 5 but tauromagia, paseo de los castaños and siroco have already been mentioned so these might be something to check out if you havent already..
Daniel Casares - Corazón de tu Alma Amir John Haddad - Pasando por Tabernas Carlos Heredia - Gypsy Flamenco José Antonio Rodríguez - La Leyenda Adolfo Jiménez - Desde Dentro
DVD´s
I dunno, i dont have a lot of DVDs but from what ive seen i think the encuentro series is brilliant as is the Rito y Geografia and Guadiana in Casa Patas and the Noches Flamencas ( .. a lot of palos played in the granainas key )
Francisco Sanchez Camaron Paris Vicente Cordoba (I only wish it would have been more Vivencias imaginadas stuff on it) RTVE Menese, Fosforito
Older singers i love are Piriñaca and Talegas. And 'Raza y Compás' with Fernanda & Bernarda is incredible.
But it seems like almost all of the greatest singers are dead ..
I got all those... interesting selection (love Jose Antonio R. playing)
Daniel Casares, Jose Antonio Rodrigues, Adolfo Jimenez
I must admit i did not listen to Adolfo Jimenez that much simply because of the poor manner in wich the cd was recorded, compared to some other cds this days.
but mibe u have convinced me to put it on again !!
I agree with you about the recording, but i like it because its different and i love the dark sound he´s got, even if it might not be the best recording or even compositions..
