How do you know when you've got bad ...
Yesterday, I strung restrung my guitar with a set of LaBella 2001F High Tension strings. I had good experiences with these before. They give my guitar a real flamenco sound.
This time, though, the G string feels flat (literally, like it has two flat sides instead of being continuously round). The trebles also refuse to settle into pitch.
Do I have a bad set? I've hear people talk about bad strings before, but I never understood how you know. I'm not sure whether I've been spoiled by the quality of the Galli Genius Titanio strings I was using, or if I just got a bad set of LaBella's and should string up another.

Toss em in the trash and put on a new set. If you REALLY want, put em in an envelope and send them back to the shop with a letter, and I am sure they will send you a new set. You will find bad string sets for sure. In my experience they come in batches. Buy from different stores if you can.

820's are Much brighter in my experience. Sort of depends on the guitar. One guitar I have 820's are too low tension and buzz more than I like. On another guitar they make the guitar come to life.

Speaking of buzzing, I just raised my action to classical guitar levels and am still getting some annoying buzzes and squeaks. Sometimes one of the strings vibrates _behind_ the finger, that is toward the nut, when I'm holding down a chord. I'm wondering if the nut may be a little low...what ya think?

Yeah it is a nut problem. Just stick a piece of paper under the bass side. It only affects action at the first fret. I personally LOVE that buzz for flamenco. It shimmers brightly over the chord. Listen to Paco's first album Fabulosa, it is all over the place.
