Acordes Villancicos

As most of you know in Spain is very popular to celebrate Christmas eve singing villancicos. I been searching the web for popular andalucian villancicos to sing with my friends here in sunny Crawley, the ones we use to sing in Jerez and came to this webpage

Is that the one where they all gather around the red spotlight and bang a big sink plunger into a bucket like in Saura's "Flamenco"? Haunting stuff.

I'll have to watch that film again, I don't remember that part. That "big sink plunger into a bucket" is called a Zambomba, hence the term 'Zambomba' to refer to a fiesta around Christmas time where they sing Christmas songs and, in Jerez, lots of Bulerias. Actually, it's not a plunger and a bucket.

It's a big clay jar called a 'cántaro' with a wet piece of material stretched across the top and a stick shoved into it. It's make-shift rhythym instrument that people in the Andalusian 'campo' invented at a time when nobody could afford a store-bought instrument.

Yes Simon, that´s it. If I remember well I think it is people from Peña La Buleria, Macanita and Parrilla playing the guitar. It is a tradition every year that La Caja de San Fernando produce a tape of Villancicos traditional fron Jerez with very important cantaores like La paquera de Jerez or Macanita. It was a tradition acording to my mother that al the neighbours sat around a fire and sing traditinal villancicos. As the economical situation was very bad they just eat pestiños( a home made sweet with honey) and drink anis. So the anis bottle had become a traditional instrument for villancicos.

Days before Christmas bars and restaurants or peñas or whatever have a day where everybody gathers to sing villancicos. It is a tradition only in Jerez I think. It is called "Zambombá".

Thanks Phil for the tip. I have seen some of them but the Villancicos I said are very traditional only in Andalucia so it may be very difficult to find the chords.
