First meeting of Foro Flamenco

Hey guys. I´ve been thinking about this for some time. In March it is the festival in Jerez and I think the members of Foro Flamenco should meet there. I have already planed my holidays for that time although only 9 days. I know it is a bit early but at least you have time to plan your holidays. I know it is difficult for some of you because of the money but I honestly think you don´t need too much. If you were ready to share accommodation I could arrange it for you, so it would be very cheap. We could do many things together. I could get tickets for some of the best shows in Teatro Villamarta. We could go to the peñas afterwards for some flamenco and vino fino. We could go for lunch with my cousin who can sing and have a flamenco party. We could go to the mountains and visit Valeriano Bernal workshop in Algodonales. Some could have guitar lessons, some cante, some palmas, etcc... We could go to Santiago neibourghood and harrass Moraito.

Anyone interested? Any ideas? I would love to be your host. I swear this time I am not going to be bossy

Melchor

Melchor,
Count me in. I'll drag my wife along to the peñas whether she want to come or not. She's sure the hell not going to let me hang around with you wild and crazy guys by myself. I might have fun. I'd love to go to Algodonales and see Bernal's shop. We could also go to San Fernando and see Rafeal Romero's shop. El Carbonero is very impressed with his guitars. Bernal's top guitars are getting a bit too pricey.

Gr8 idea count me in, what a perfect place for flamenco afficionados to meet. How about a trip to Cadiz while the carnival is on. (when were you ever bossy???? )
Ulesis is organising a flamenco/world music night in norht london, I'll let you know where and when when it's finalised.
To anyone who is thinking of going I can tell the festival in Jerez is the best I have experienced - (Melchor was very kind and organised everthing - taking no credit for it). I can recomend it from personal experience .
See you all there

Hey Melchor,
Splendido!
I went to Paco Pena in Cordoba for 2 weeks in 1990 and that was a terrific experience. I've wanted to do something similar ever since, but never got round to it.
I'm not getting any younger and if I don't do it soon?...so count me in.
I'll need to find out where I can fly from, I don't think I can get to Jerez direct from Glasgow but that's a minor detail.
So, what dates in March?
Cheers
Jim.

I´ll go to Jerez from the 2nd till the 10th of March. I go to Jerez for short breaks before so I can arrange the accommodation. I need to know how many are going and for how long.

Jim

You can fly to Sevilla and then take the train, there is a bus every half an hour that takes you to Sevilla Santa Justa. It only takes one hour from Seville to Jerez. Another option is Malaga but it is a bit more complicated. You take the train to Dos Hermanas and then change the train to Jerez. 3 hours.

Melchor as you know I may be chaperoned by an interesting person I met over there, but as I have Irish stamina and he doesn't I would seriously be interested in sharing accomodation with guys who like to sit up late playing and drinking fino!

One thing that would probably rule me out of being a Flamenco is that I've always preferred going to bed early and getting up early!
As they say here..."Early to bed, up with the cock"

Whaah?

LOL!

Come on Ron, you have to come . It is not going to be the same without you. I just want to see if it is really you playing bulerias, I still can not believe it a 100% There are not many chances of me going to Stonehaven to check it.

No problem Simon.
You know, when I was young we used to have to get up half an hour before we went to bed.
But try telling that to the kids these days.....

cheers

The Festival de Jerez is going to be February 27th to March 10th, 2004. I'll be there. It's a good place to meet because there are so many different activities, and everything is very accessible. You do have to get tickets for the nighttime shows at the theater well in advance because the best things sell out quickly. They haven't finished making up the program yet.

Hi Kate, I will get to know you at last!

Simon

I´ll contact Viajes Ceretur which is a travel agency. They own houses and they let them for a very reasonable price. I can not count for the quality of the appartaments but I can do it next time I go to Spain. I need to know for sure how many people are coming. I would like to know your preferences as well, for instance you want a flat to share wit one, two or three people.

Rather u than me Melchor, but thanx. Listen I may stay for the full festival or two weeks as there are a couple of people I want to see, but otherwise I am easy - if people are doing couple things then I can make alternative plans but if not, the more the merrier and I'll live in a big commune for a week....

Hola Melchor,

I'm looking forward to meeting you all as well and especially getting to know Jerez, during a fiesta. Good on you for getting it together. I am guessing that I'll come on my own and that harold will be hard at work in studio, but you never know. Its round my birthday so he may just down tools and come with me.

Ha'ta luego
Kate

Hi Simon,

I'm going to twist Harold's arm but it all depends if he has studio sessions so he wont be able to know that in advance. The studio is going well, Emilio is doing some lovely stuff and its such a pleasure to have the place lively with musicians having fun. Great for my flamenco education too as they keep bringing in old CDs of cante and guitarists for me and explaining the story behind the recordings, the families, the palos. Some of these singers ( Victor El Charico, Antonio Campos) are serious walking flamenco encyclopedias.

Have you heard of the new magazine Exploring Spain ? It should be coming out this December. Well next issue they are doing a feature on us, the studio , the US tour. It will make a change from articles about doing up farmhouses, and running bed and breakfasts. In the December issue they do a feature on Posh and Becks. You can just picture them in their library reading Cervantes :)))))

Kate

I am definitely coming and I am fine on sharing - get a big apartment/house. Look forward to seeing you and Kate again, meeting Estela and making new friends.
