Which type of Sally Hansen's product ?

Today I went to the chemist and found out that there were different kinds of Sally Hansen's product ( eight).
I read some posts in the past of people who were not satisfied with the product. So maybe they bought the wrong kind.
I don't want to make that mistake. There were for example "diamond strength" and "instant strength"
Which one is the type that I should buy.

Hi Koella

The one I use is called Hard as nails (with nylon)
I have never tried other ones, so I´m not an expert. I prefer it to super glue because it does not crack that easy.

Good luck

Do NOT use super-glue - it will destroy your nails totally to the point that you will become dependent on having to use it.

Use something less toxic and friendly to your body

I hear this alot, but the main ingredient in Super glue and Krazy glue is the same in the brush on nail glue products. It is not toxic and infact is used in surgical procedures. A flamenco guitarist I know in his 60's has used it every day since a young boy, and it does not harm his nails or body. What destroys the nails if you play a lot, is doing rasgueados. People seem to think that glue destroys your nails, but it does not if you leave it on. If you try to remove it, you will take some of your nail with it. Krazy Glue now has a brush version, as do special nail care products. I recommend any type of product with this ingredient to flamenco players:

The new glue was demonstrated in 1959 on the television show I've Got a Secret when the host Garry Moore was lifted into the air by two steel plates held together with a drop of Eastman 910. Cyanoacrylates are now a family of adhesives based on similar chemistry.
(Wikipedia)

That just dropped my jaw - one drop of glue!!!

While we're on the topic: does anybody else's eyes burn while applying superglue? I have to keep my arm outstretched, otherwise my eyes will burn and tear. This is why I can understand the conjecture that superglue's chemicals are adverse for the body; it's chemicals are obviously harmful at the industrial grade (which is what we buy, in brush form, from the hardware store... maybe not as strong as the Eastman 910 though ). But given that the nail is not porous, I could not see it as posing a danger to the body's wellbeing. I'm not in the life sciences, however, so this is just a hypothesis.

When applying, I try not to let the stuff touch the skin right around and under the nail, lest I want the glue to keep the nail from coming out.

Is superglue water proof ? I heard Sally Hansen is.
I mean, when I do the dishes.....( never mind ).
When I take a shower, do I put a glove on my right hand or what ?

Because the presence of moisture causes the glue to set, exposure to moisture in the air can cause a tube or bottle of glue to become unusable over time. To prevent an opened container of glue from setting before use, it must be stored in an airtight jar or bottle with a package of silica gel.

Another important trait is that cyanoacrylate sets fast, often in less than a minute. A normal bond reaches full strength in two hours, and is waterproof. There are also accelerants that can force cyanoacrylate to set in two or three seconds, at some loss of strength.

Acetone, which is sometimes found in nail polish remover, is a commonly available solvent capable of softening cured cyanoacrylate.

Cold temperatures cause cyanoacrylate to become brittle.
(Wikipedia)

Yes, it's waterproof. SuperGlue better send me a cheque for all this advertising I'm doing.

Does the nail itself expand or shrimp while being exposed to water ?
When it does then the glue has to be a little flexable, no ?
Otherwise it will come off.

Expand or shrink? Hmmm, I don't think it does either - it 'sets', i.e., solidifies. Oh wait... actually, I think it expands, because all liquids expand when they solidify (e.g., water to ice - put a glass of water in the freezer and the glass will break by morning).

...

You were asking about the nail itself. If you completely coat the nail with the glue, which is waterproof, then you need not worry about the effects of water on the nail.

I use super glue when building guitars and I would not trust what some chemist have said (They have said so many things ). The smell of it, the irritation of your eyes and the hot fumes it makes when applied in bigger quantity makes my intuition say: Watch out with this stuff.

I´m very sure Ricardo is right when he says that most nail products are using superglue as their main ingredient. They smell like that
I find a difference in flexibility. I work with my hands and so my nails are always having difficult. Superglue cracks very easily and some nail products are less prone to that.

Oh yeah I forgot to meantion, don't get it in your eyes or SNIFF GLUE when applying it.

Glue of any kind is not to be used carelessly, that is for sure. NEVER smell the stuff...hold your breath when using anything with fumes. And try to NOT get it on your skin or clothes, or guitar, etc.

A hippy dancer was checking out my bottle of nail glue once. I told her not to sniff it, and what did she do? Model airplane glue and KRAZY glue are different things. I think she killed some brain cells that day.

Anyone see the movie American Pie 2, where he confuses super glue for....
