How is this bass guy maintaining compas?

I have been learning Puente de los Orfebes since the past few weeks and this guy came in my Youtube feed today. Needless to say, I'd say he plays really good.

One thing I was wondering about, though: how does someone coming from a bass background internally maintain Bulerías compás?

This particular Bulerías is one of the more difficult ones as it has quite a bit of syncopation, and I don’t really see him using the usual physical cues we often use in flamenco to keep time, like the upstrokes or those small hand movements.

What do you think?

I "think" he probably understands it as a 3/4 or a 6/8 (as opposed to a fast soleá for example, which this piece is not expressing anyway), but I would "know for sure" if I could see his foot tap.

When people have good time it is actually arbitrary in cases like the above if their internal meter is 2x3 or 3x2. The only mistake that can occur would be a 2/4 triplet feel (12&1, &2&, etc, such that the second "&" is felt as beat 2 metrically), which I don't sense going on here but can imagine it being an issue for musicians outside the tradition.

Ironically, I believe there are musicians in this world who objectively are executing certain musical pieces perfectly, yet, subjectively they are feeling it wrong internally vs the composer's intention. I can only say this by admitting I have at times been in that exact position myself.

Here was an interesting thread about beat perception where I used a non-flamenco example as an exercise.
