"Seguiriya" by Niño Ricardo

Does anyone know either what album (from Ricardo) this song is from or if it goes by another title?

Just about any of his recordings, solo or with cante. Not on the Hispavox recording. Most or all of the same ideas are on the Chant du Monde CD. The title is "Nostalgia flamenca."

Thanks. I searched for that title because I saw it listed in Faucher's book, but then the top result was this (i.e. something very different):

But maybe this one is mis-labled?

Yeah, I think it's actually "Rosa flamenca," released in 1955.

There are two versions of "Nostaligia flamenca" (siguriya por medio), one released in 1955 and the other in 1958. If you want copies, PM me and I'll send them.

Hurtado really nails that metallic Ricardo sound!

Is it fair to characterize the clip at the top of this thread (i.e. Hurtado's performance of Ricardo's sequiriya) as an elastic use of compas?

yes of course, as was always standard for ALL siguiriyas cante and toque until modern times. Dance was more strict tempo (Sabicas and Carmen Amaya).

Paco's Luzia was one of the first strict tempo guitar solos I am aware of. Soon after Vicente's "Canto" with el Pele has the slow siguiriyas in strict tempo with a rumba sub groove (6 rumba patterns = one compas of siguiriyas marked by palmas sordas), and is of the first I recall hearing that was NOT elastic for cante. Soon after the double tempo accompaniment was developed by Diego del Morao which is again strict tempo (I believe a throw back to the oldest seguidillas gitanas of the 1800s).

Imagine them dance to this less "classically" more folkloric with castanets:
