D'Addario strings are incredible. I used to play with the La Bella flamenca negras (hard tension), but the D'Addarios (normal tension) are far better. Noticeable difference in tone and volume.

I tried Saverez 520s today for the first time and all I can say is wow. Beautiful tone and feel.

I realy like the la Bella 820s and Pro Arte are ok for the price.

The Saverez are in French and I can't tell if the trebles are carbon fiber but they shure sound like it. I would put these next to Hannabachs for sound, but well see how long they last.

I use Luthier Set 30 basses and Hannabach 827HT trebles. I get them from StringsByMail - very fast shipping and you can gather your own set from single strings, or local music stores.

Labella 820 sound good on my cg171sf, as do D'Addarios EJ45 & 46 - think I'm a bit partial to the 46s.

I have some cheap ErnieBall strings on it now. I wanted to take them off right after I put them on, but procrastination got the better of me. EJ46s going on - sometime this week anyway!

As most here, I too get them from Stringsbymail.com and I've been using the Hannabachs 827 HT sets. They sound very bright on my guitar.

Have not experimented much with different strings yet, so I too am on a quest.

good luck!!

samwise,
i was never a fan of any of ernie balls strings, either for electric or acoustic, i always bought either fender or martins strings, they are so worth the money.

Yea, those Ernie Balls blow. After a search for strings that lasted half a day and 3 different music stores was not very productive, I decided to go ahead and buy the Ernie Balls instead of going home empty handed. I'm going back to one of the stores, and buying the D'Addarios, but after that, I'm using mail order.

Have you guys seen this website?

RE: good strings and where to get em? (in reply to henrym3483

Those 5 sollar Ernieballs in the white pack were good strings in my oppinion. I mean for 5 bucks. I can get 2 packs of 820s for about 15 bucks and Saverez a pack was 15.

When I recieved my Flamenco guitar I realized soon that all strings last longer and sound better on a qaulity guitar. I had to change my strings 2 to 3 times a week when I was using my 150 dollar Alvarez.. Now one pack lasts a week or two.

Try to keeep your hands clean, and whipe of your guitar when your done playing.

Oh yehhhs and of course(put the guitar back in its case.

ah, i play for about 2hrs each day, i usally notice a change in tone after 3wks, then i adjust the strings by a couple of cm then i retune up and they sound good for another 2-3wks.i usually change strings sets once every 2-3months.

Good advice, since I tend to be on the oily side. Double cheeseburgers don't help much.

Maybe I should buy a case?
Nah, I'll wait till I get a better guitar. Seriously tho, it's a Yamaha cg171sf. I just lean it up against the wall when I'm done.
I do have nicer guitars that get wiped down regularly after use, and remain in their case when not in use, but the Yamaha is my stepchild!

I can't see how a pack of strings could last a month let alone 3 weeks.

I guess I just love that new crispy sound.

When I played classical yes maybe 2 months but since I started Flamenco 3 weeks max if I'm not realy practicing much.

Savarez are usually pretty good, but for me they don't last too long. But it depends on the guitar. Which guitar do you use?

RE: good strings and where to get em? (in reply to henrym3483

I placed an order on Monday at stringsandbeyond.com/">Guitar Strings and Beyond, and they arrived on Thursday. I ordered a pack of stringsandbeyond.com/sa500prcocrc.html">Savarez 500 PR Corum, and a pack of stringsandbeyond.com/ha827flclgus1.html">Hannabach 827 Flamenco. The Savarez' have been on for a couple of days, they sound pretty good, but the treble strings feel different to me. I don't know if I can explain it, but they feel a little thicker than what I'm used to. They also feel a little more slippery - almost like they are coated with something. They sound good, but I have been trying to keep my nails filed a little shorter than usual, so the issue with the trebles is magnified, me thinks.

Cervantes Santos Hernandes Style(1800dollars). I think the 820s last longer than anything I've tried so far.
