Improving Treble

A question for luthiers and repairers. I have an Esteve flamenco negra guitar. It has all the right woods etc but a rather harsh thin tone on the trebles. I have tried numerous string types and gauges to get a better tone. Is there anything that can be done to the bracing or top to help improve the tone ?

I dont think so.

I used to work in a shop where there were many Esteve guitars, and it´s a bit of as general problem. Esteve guitars are very big. Way to big and heavy IMHO, and it makes them sound like that.

I think it would be easyer to change the guitar than changing the bracing

I am no a luthier myself but I second Anders's words that this most likely because it is big and heavy. My first guitar is a handmade student maple classical that sounds just like you described. Can be fixed in recording though

Try Saveraz Corrum Alliance trebles. If that doesn't do it, forget it.

Yes, those are the ones. The 500 series comes with other trebles, so you have to be specific as to Alliance trebles. The 540 series are all Alliance trebles.

I get mine from Stringsbymail.com. I buy a bunch of extra Bass sets and rarely change the trebles. They seem to last for months.

The next time you have the strings off pull the saddle and look at it and the saddle slot. Is the saddle flat and level all across the bottom? Is the saddle slot's bottom flat and level? Does the saddle make complete contact in the bottom of the saddle slot across the entire length of the saddle?

What material is the saddle made from, bone, Tusq (plastic), etc. I have made some notable improvements to both tone and treble on two factory guitars recently, by replacing their plastic (Tusq) saddles with bone.

Worth a look, anyway.

I just restringed my both guitars with hard tension Alliance trebles. They do sound brighter than anything I have tried before on both, but the 1st string seems to have too much tension on 655mm-scale Sigurdson. On 650mm scale maple classical they sound and feel just fine - bright and deep. Anyways, Sigurdson does not need any treble improvement so I'll switch back to Hannabach 827HT on it.
