I was watching this on you tube 9 ( 1.32 to 1.40 ) and was having a problem getting the exact timing after the triple roll from 6...10. with the syncopated hammer/ golpes etc. Slowing it down makes it seem more vague. Anyone know what he is doing. Cheers peter.
think about galloping with the normal tresillos p-a-i. So you start off beat a-i the p up on the beat, with a swing feel. &-ah8, &-ah9, &-ah10, 11, etc. The next one he leaves OFF the count 10 up stroke do the funky thing up slap slap, up slap slap, etc.
thanks Ricardo that helps, because I was starting on the off beat but with the thumb up which wont end up at the correct spot. After 10 I hear the syncopated part starting on 11& with the accents 12 and 2 corresponding to the end of the hammer ons and therefore the upstroke thumbs on the off beats. Does this seem correct ?

Thanks Ricardo that's a good improvement on mine. But there is still something that I am hearing different to you. The upstrokes are on the & ...I can hear that but I hear the taps a bit later. So instead of for example taking your upstroke on 12 and a half ...I dont hear taps on 1,& .There seems to be a silent half beat before the taps ( maybe an hammer on with left hand which is the accent. So instead of sounding it like up,tap, tap it sounds like saying up,&,tap, tap with the accent on the & ( so that hammer would be on 12 or a 2 or a 4 or whatever. ...so the way you write it it would be
12 rest & upstroke 1 pause accent &,2 slap slap....however if you make 12 the accent it become
12 silent accent from hammer on &1 slap slap & up thumb 2 silent hammer &3 slap slap
Hope my explanations sound clear ..Im still a bit confused lol
there is no hammer. He is muting the chord with pinky on the first slap. The pauses are AFTER the second slap each time.
Because they tap the foot 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, the "beat" is like quarter notes in 3, or 12=1, 2=2, 4=3, 6=1, 8=2, 10=3, etc. So, the remate to 10 is cut short so count ten is like beat 3 of a slow 3/4 with 16th note grooving. The effect is 3 (e-&ah), 1 (e-&-ah), 2 e-&-ah 3. So in parentheses is the up slap slap creating the off time 16ths with the beat or foot keeping track of the rests. 2-e-&-ah 3 is filled in with the chord strum (up down up =e-&-ah)but 3 is the first slap on the upper soundboard (count 4). The slide to count 6 is actually "&-1" of the 3/4 (or 5-6 solea), and then remate. I find simplifying the meter that way helps hear it and feel it with the foot. But what I wrote before is correct with solea count system.
