Picado-Arpeggio?

During the short stretch at 0:40-45 in the video, Vicente plays five triplets with what I thought was an a-m-i arpeggio. But looking at the video more closely, it looks like he's playing them with m-i picado and dragging the index finger over the G-string on the way up.

1. Is my latter description correct?

2. If so, is there a name for that technique?

Why play by dragging? ami is perfect for this.

No dragging. It is ami. But he likes to play this apoyando (rest stroke) instead of the more common tirando (free stroke). The Pima portion is infact tirando, that is why he changes his hand angle a bit.

m-i rest stroke and thumb downstroke at 0:08-0:25. Another way to play ami tirando and thumb downstroke amiP amiP...

If you have a guitar like that you get to play whatever way you want - no questions asked.
