I saw an interview with Rafael Riqueni once wherein he said he hates his own playing: he only plays that way because it seems to be what people want.
that seems really odd, i don't know him personally or anything, but i wonder if the "hates his own playing" thing is more of a self-doubt thing.... and i wonder what he would like to sound like??
I have spoken of Carlos before, and the 1959 Hernandez y Aguado I bought from him in 59/60. I lived and do live in a state (TN) virtually devoid of flamenco. I did not appreciate fully the quality of the instrument I got from Carlos; I knew it was wonderful, but in fact, it was the only flamenco guitar ever in my hands until about 2005; now I have a number of fine guitars. In 1982 I was playing banjo with a swing fiddle band at the Worlds Fair in Knoxville. Carlos performed there also in a special concert, and so I went to his trailer after the performance and met the Montoya family for the first time other than in phone conversations. Sally, his wife did the talking but both were extremely gracious to me and remembered selling me the guitar. It was so fine to actually get to meet them, and Carlos did play an awesome concert that night. I will always remember them both with respect and gratitude.

Maybe you know this or not, but there are only like 4 of those (if it is in fact a cypress flamenco guitar) ever made. I met a gentleman here in Maryland/DC that had one, which was excellent, and another is in the Sheldon Urlik book. If you are not either of those people, then you have the 3rd and someone has the last one out there.
