Calling in from Sevilla (WOMEX)

Hi all
I´ve come to Sevilla to see if I can catch any of Womex, Ojos de Brujo are playing but it seems as though a few top acts have dropped out such as Gerado Nunez and Belen Maya which is a shame. I´ve only been here a day so I´m just trying to adjust and brush up on my sevillano, andalu´ (k eta aciendo po aki). If there´s anyone else who has made it over and is a member of the foro I´d like to meet up. I´m staying in the calle feria and its cool coz there´s an internet cafe just acroos the street. I went to the carboneria last night with some friends and saw some good singers (all without PA in a noisy room), the fe3stival doesn´t start until tomorrow so I´ll see what I can find tonight.
See you all soon
Fergus

Fergus-

Let us know how Ojos de Brujo are live. I've downloaded a couple of thier songs and I'm really liking their groove. Now if I could buy their CDs here in the US...

Who did you hear sing?
That's silly that they don't use PAs.

If he was there Tuesday night that was Maria Pen~a with her husband Antonio Moya, and El Pola...perhaps other people as well. The owner of the Carboneria can't allow amplification because of neighbors' complaints.

It used to be common to work with natural sound...even in bullrings. Audiences quiet down if they want to hear. At the Carboneria everyone's drinking and looking for a good time...amplification would just make them talk louder.

It was indead Maria and her husband who I saw a few times over the week in the feria Mundial de Flamenco as well as at the Carboneria, I particulally enjoyed 'ahora Utrera' (I guess they must be from that way, Zata must know). Anyways the whole week was great the feria was set out of town in the 'Palacio de congresso' and at times a bit disorganised but definately a variety of stuff to see. The feria ran alongside WOMEX and was more of a trade fair than for general public. Some of the highlights for me were : Jose Luis Monton and group with twins who played a basc instrument the txalapartas http://www.yeiyeba.com/index14.htm. Gerado Nuñex also did a couple of showcases with a trio and larger fusion group but I have to say I enjoyed the trio more than larger group was a bit overwhelming (and my girlfriend said 'noisy'). Moraito finished off the whole thing which included a horse coming out at the end and dancing to tangos (I jest not) typically Jerezano I guess. Sad to be going back to Britain today but all good things must....... I ran into Zata somewhere near her stall with deflamenco in the feria, good to see her and say hello again albeit briefly. Catch you all see
