Kai, Ricardo-music notation

hi
There is no doubt that Kai and Ricardo are great players and their knowledge is impressive. Since I am the beginner I have troubles to follow their lectures because of the complexity of the subject. I discovered it is easier for me to follow video lessons where music notation is included. I prefer to see eight notes, sixteenth notes etc written on staff. I will still consult Kai and Ricardo materials but this is gonna happen when I have more knowledge. At the moment can you guys recommend youtube channels where people teach basic flamenco guitar patterns and where music notation is available ?

you have been 8 years on this forum, and these days you start to play flamenco guitar?

use your ears and memory. you need small enough chunks of simple enough material to get it by ear and retain it. then you can develop those faculties which are most needed for flamenco guitar.

Just keep listening and watching videos, play guitar, and the amount of (complex) information will eventually make sense. Flamenco is complicated and you pick it up little by little. Also, this forum has existed for a long time and there's vast amounts of invaluable information on it, it's worth just searching old threads, there's always something new to learn.

Books! If you find it helpful to see the rhythms written out (as I do), use books. Many of them come with audio files. Of course, books don’t give you everything you need, but then neither do videos.

The foro archives are full of suggestions and reviews.

I agree, it's the rhythms, bar lines, etc, that I find useful.

As a beginner having been learning flamenco for a couple of years, I find good transcriptions with notation and tab books are very helpful. Coupled with hearing the original music and the various YT videos of people playing the pieces it's all very helpful.

I really like the Paco Pena book, and the Sabicas Rey Del Flamenco book.

Atrafanaschool youtube channel. Juan Martin book has everything you mentioned above.

I started out learning classical guitar first and taught myself to read notation from various methods books such as Noad's Solo Guitar Playing and the first Julio Sagreras book.

I'm still studying those books and that music but since I had a strong interest in flamenco as well I bought a couple of the Juan Martin books, from which I did pick up some interesting bits, but I'm finally beginning to understand basic compas and technique after signing up for Kai's courses and just following him on the videos, learning to play by ear.

From what I've gathered so far, written scores are far less useful for flamenco than most other music, and seem to get in the way, more than help. It is much the same with playing blues, which I also play as it is a requirement for a resident guitar player here in Mississippi, home of the blues!

Notation and tab in the accompanying book and online resources.

As I have said a few times, Flamenco Explained is an excellent resource, and beginner friendly in every way.

I still think you should book a couple of online lessons. Saved me a hell of a lot of trouble getting lessons before I thought I 'knew' stuff.

Yes, Kai has notation and tab available. I downloaded and printed the beginner course but when I started following his videos I found I didn't need the printed resources.

He emphasizes the modular approach of learning and putting together the various parts of each palo. Taking it slow and learning each part by ear works well for me.

Recently someone was confused by a misleading notation from that source.

I contacted irish person-Mr Walsh in relation to lessons . He is very good player. He said he can give me one to one lesson. It is probably a bit better if you have a chance to have one to one lesson instead of skype lesson. Unfortunately I still haven't got typical flamenco guitar. All I have is cordoba fusion 12 natural guitar. This is electro classical guitar and there is nothing flamenco about this guitar . I wonder if he will give me lesson if I tell him I don't have typical flamenco guitar.

If it's got nylon strings you will be perfectly fine. Please don't give it another thought. In fact you're probably advised to stick with it until you have been playing for a while and know more about what you want.

I'm delighted you are getting some lessons. If the tutor is good it is the best start you can hope to have.
