strings

Hey guys :) I play about 2-3 hours a day and the bass strings have to be changed every week. I found a little trick to flip them which gives me a week more, I use knobloch carbon actives and savarez long play, how long do your bass strings last, at a point I thought it was my guitar but I’ve been told it’s normal. maybe I just need reassurance but not more than 2 weeks and the bass strings need to be changed.

It's not unusual, depending on your string and sound preferences.

I use D'addario because I found that other bass string windings soon break, especially on the D string as it wears at the fret.
Before D'addario I would move the string along so another place on the string met the fret before it wore out.

As for sound I personally prefer bass strings at least a few days old and not super bright. I usually change D'addario Pro-Arté basses every 4-8 weeks of about 10-20 hours play/week
Trebles I wait until they stop intonating, usually about once or twice a year.

How old are you? When I was in my 20s this was the same deal for me. AS I got older the PH changed in my fingers and strings lasted longer and longer. Same brands always, it did not matter what brand. I use Labella 820 or Luthier 20 still for many years. In my 30’s I figured this problem out because the young guys in my group would handle my guitar briefly and kill my strings in minutes. Now I am approaching 50 and my strings last for months after tons and tons of gigs. . I mean they start coming apart or looking bad LONG before they sound bad. I no longer need to flip them around looking still new, because they just need to be changed even sounding brilliant still.

Thanks for the replies, I’m 37, I only flip them when they get dull. I thought it was a problem with the guitar but thanks for reassuring me, I don’t mind if they look used but still sound brilliant, just curious to hear it from here, thank you. :)
