Can anybody think of any Solo pieces done in this key? Plenty Cante stuff, but I've been going through a heap of albums and everything is in E or A or modern style (ie Tarantas key/ Open tunings/Weird Keys etc ).

I thought that with modern flamenco any key would do for any Palo?
Well, if you will forgive me for discussing traditional flamenco here is a list of Palos that either are or can be played in the key of C major. The asterisk indicates those Plaos that can be played in any key.
Bulerías * Cantiñas Caracoles Garrotín Rumbas * Sevillanas * Zapateado (Also E Phrygian and Dm)

Tom, What I was meaning was does anybody have the names of any Sabicas type or "old school" solo Alegrias in this key? All my stuff is on LPs, Cassettes or CD's and it takes ages going through them all!
Miguel, Yeah, I get the Romeros, Cantiñas thing, but I'm a bit confused, because I hear lots of Cante stuff just called "Alegrias" played in this key. Also I have a solo track by Paco Peña called "Cantiñas", but it's played in E not C.
Ah...Fabuloso Flamenco...I think that's what I was hearing in my head... Thanks Flo. You know that way when you hear something in your head and can't remember where you heard it from? You go through lots of albums and still can't find it?
Alegrias in C has a nice ring to the sound of the open chords, but apart from a few notes that conveniently lie under the fingers, there are not a lot of places to go, unless you are a guitar expert. Maybe that's why there is not much of the stuff... E and A seem to offer better opportunities falseta-wise. Most of the accompaniment stuff I hear seems to basically cover the same ground falseta-wise ...(including Tomatito/Camaron). Sounds great to begin with, but seems it's quite an awkward key to develop in Flamenco guitar?
LA PERLA DE CADIZ FROM almoramia is Alegrias in C. chichuelo also has one.
The Romeras ,Mirabras and caracoles has more do do with the melodie of the song and not so much the key on the guitar even though caracoles are mostly played in C as far as i and some book know.
check out the Alegrias on the camaron in Paris concert and compare it to Romeras and Mirabras and you´ll hear a huge diffrence.

Yeah I back up what henrik said. You play Alegrias, Mirabra, Caracoles, Romeras (all are in the family of Cantinas), in whatever key the singer wants depending on his or her range. Deeper voices work for C major, E major for middle voices, and women usually sing in A major, all with possible capo. Cmajor capo 5 or E major capo 1 are the same key, so the guitarist has that choice (for example). It depends a lot on the "macho" letra that is sung last and has a wide range of notes. For baile, it is more typical to play E major, where as a cante solo would be in C major (giving the singer more room to go high).
Recuerdo a patino is in E minor, like the silencio for an alegria in E. The one by Paco in C major is a great example, not too modern IMO. There is over dubbing, but the main guitar part on its own is typicall of stuff used in accompaniment in C major. I am sure you can find another guitar solo some where in C major. How about nino ricardo?
