Ok Yes, and in some ways, a hard no.

Let’s just mix flamenco with gamelan, right? Nope.

I’m sick of any kind of music that sounds ‘ravey’ because that sucked in 1993

It is just a part of a Festival of Music organized by the Ayuntamiento de Cadiz.

I really enjoyed that one. Excellent sound quality, as well. I’m going to check out her album “Rosa de los Vientos”.

Pohren wrote that the guitarist is the hardest worker in flamenco. He has to play the guitar, know the dance, and know the cante almost as well as the singer in order to accompany.

Then along comes the flute players, the sax guys, the violin players, the piano guys, who get the falseta without doing the hard work, because let's face it, they can't.

Nope. Not buying it, no matter how many dancers want to do something different.

It reminds me of this:

Don't shoplift the falseta from the guitar player!

And that’s why we have this Foro de Guitarra Flamenca.

Also, the impression I have is the upcoming festival in Cádiz is a celebration of Andalusian artists and their music, not just of Flamenco, although luminaries such as Tomatito and Paco Cepero are performing.

Nope, you don’t get to hang that on me. I love the cante, and spend a lot of time studying its accompaniment. What I’m not interested in is flute and harp players in flamenco. If there is a flamenco flute forum, you can have it.

Why not just a Foro Flamenco?

Honestly, nobody is forcing anyone to like or listen to anything. I kind of resent the implication that I shouldn’t enjoy the music of certain artists just because it doesn’t fit a certain mold, or that somehow my character is suspect if I do. Hopefully that’s not what Morante was playing at. I guess I’m naive enough to take people’s posts at face value, although around here maybe I shouldn’t.

don't you know rob -- only fools enjoy flamenco that hasn't been approved by a select group of geezers from la estados unidos

i'm all for turning this into a flamenco recorder forum, maybe piwin will come back

I don’t recall disrespecting people whose taste in music doesn’t line up with mine. If you like the harpist playing alegrias fine with me. I also have no issue with any topic, from ottmar to Rosalia being discussed on the forum. Recently a guy asserted that flamenco needed these variants from the traditional settings. I didn’t agree but he got no push back from me. Like what you like, but we all have our preferences and I stated mine.

After playing classes for years, then sitting through mind numbing rehearsals for dance shows, only to have the head of the company bring in a violin player to play the falseta, I didn’t like it, and I don’t like seeing it with professional guitarists who play the hell out of the guitar and then take a back seat to a flute player. Personal preference.
I could give a rats ass if other people like it, and I certainly don’t judge people for it. Post all the flamenco harpist you want. I’ll try not to offend you.

Morante was not playing at anything, merely pointing out what organizers are putting on in flamenco shows.

Personally I prefer Tomás Pavón or Muddy Waters, but other people have other tastes.

I checked the webpage for the Cádiz festival and the line-up goes well beyond just flamenco and modern, I believe there is also classical music, but I’d have to check again. Morante would know as he lives there.

I’m not trying to pick fights, there’s been enough of those around here recently as it is. I’ll listen to what pleases me, my tastes are wide ranging and include a healthy dose of flamenco. There was a time when flamenco was pretty well the only thing I’d listen to, but those days have passed. I’m a guitar maker, not a flamenco, and while I have friends in Spain who are flamencos and live every moment of their days as such, I’ve never claimed to be anything but what I am, not to them, nor to anyone else.

If the hardcores of the Foro would prefer people like me not frequent the place, or for me to keep my mouth shut and only speak when spoken to, then so be it, just say so and I can be on my way. It’ll have no impact on my love of flamenco, whatsoever. That can continue without all this nonsense.

Joke aside, personaly I think these mixes and endeavours are very important. I mean nature needs mutation. Some mutations are crap and go down the drain, and some will bring new energy and life forms, or music forms.

I listenned with interest to all the stuff. Until I find something that blows my mind, I kind of stay with tradition. I haven't seen yet a good mutation :)

My path is actually opposite. As I didn't know much about Flamenco 5 years ago, I got into enjoying it through Capullo, Potito, and Camaron. With Time, I go backwards in time and discover the older singers.

So from a branch, I'm going down the Igdrazyl of Flamenco to find it's roots.

That said, I have to admit I hate the flute, violin and harps in Flamenco...LOL The only guest i sometimes enjoy is the piano. But only sometimes.

Anyway, what I'm saying is that Those people are trying things. And I have tremendous respect for that. it doesn't prevent me from saying to myself..."what a load of crap". That said, the rocio Marquqez with bronquio was interesting. And the Romero Martin too.
