Resting fingers when using thumb

When using the thumb either in playing falsetta or alzapua, is it best to rest the fingers on the top E string ( as suggested in some DVD lessons ) or NOT to rest the fingers and just learn to use the thumb swinging free?

Apperently some do and some don't.

I think your supposed to as much as posible. Ive seen it done many ways.

You have allways the best control if you allways rest a finger on a string or the soundboard if its possible. Only in some arpegios and tremolo its not allways possible. But if you use the thumb I would control the alzapua by using the frst string for controlling with a finger. You dont have to rest it all the time. But every stroke of the thum which comes from the melodiy to the bass-stings I would touch the first string or the soundboard with a finger.
Yes some people do it this way and some do it different. But whenever I saw advanced players, they used one finger for controlling the position.

Edgar, I saw you also dont rest your thumb on the sixt string when you do index strokes in the bulerias. Thats very unusual. You would have more power in the stroke if you would flip your fingers from the thumb, or just rest your thumb. The golpe which you do with the thumb is unusual for today.
But I found a special way for doing arpegios on the same string as the thumb. I have good control when I touch with the back side of my thumb the string above the string I will hit after the next arpegio. I only do it during special arpegios.. hhmm.. did someone understood this discription?? huh...The result of this "new"!! technic is, to have more power and control in arpegios with the thumb on the same string as the arpegio starts. It works fine for me.. But I think other people would have problems with that.
