My new stage name
Guys, I have been struggling with this name--Michael W. Cho--and trying to be a Spanish Guitar Player. I don't have a problem with my name but it's bad for what I do. My old band, had a Migueeel Rodrrriiiiguez, a Raaauuuul Balderrraamaa, and a Mike Cho. And now it's Danieeeeel Nuneezzz, and Mike Cho. And also...well, you get the point. So I came up with this name, I kind of like it. I hope you guys don't all laugh at me, but the name is Miguel de Maria. My mom's name is Mary. I think it's kind of nice, but I feel silly about drawing any kind of link to Paco...that's certainly not my intent. So what do you guys think?
Miguel "El Chino" is quite flamenco and it is genuine, it says something about you and people will always remember your name. Anyway there is a singer called David de Maria so you don´t what a name similar to a famous singer. Eventually people will remember you by your nickname "El Chino",like "El Capullo", "Terremoto", "Tomatito", "El Carbonero", "Camaron", etc.......
Melchor

Simon, I have considered the feedback here, some really good suggestions, but decided to stay with Miguel de Maria. The nickname you suggested was actually quite logical and very flamenco...those racists! I actually got a nickname in Sevilla--El Perilla de Phoenix! I guess it's a play on the name of some famous guitarist named El Parilla de Sevilla or something like that. Anyways perilla means "goattee"--one of which I have. Although people in Sevilla thought it was very funny, it means nothing to me or anyone down here.
Of course Merle's suggestion of Jo Miquel was quite innovative and had to be considered.
I have gotten much better feedback to the Miguel de Maria name here...my fiance and my mother love it! So maybe I will be one of those artists who have more female fans than male fans...will I be an Esteban? You guys know, Esteban's from this city after all. But seriously, I like the name and that counts for a lot. It's my gut instinct that people on this side of the pond will gravitate toward it--and on the cover of an album, they will like it a lot better than Michael W. Cho.
