I feel like he might have confused some folks though by saying to count in 2’s or 3’s with an “open ended feel”, versus a base of 6 or half Compás with a quarter note / dotted quarter feel. I get his point but Ricardo has a more refined way of explaining it.

Yes, simply put the twos feel has to be phrased in groups of 3, and the threes feel must be phrased in groups of 2. Otherwise it is easy to get lost in either of the two....so easy in fact there exist many examples of guitar falsetas that don’t square out to 6. The palmas he shows don’t work in those cases, in other words. And the guys making the “error” are paco de Lucia, niño Miguel (repeat same live as on tape), Sabicas, niño ricardo, etc. So 2x3 or 3x2 is the safe way to go.
