Contemporary Garrotin

Have any prominent players over the last, say, 50 years recorded a Garrotin, in addition to Riqueni? And does anyone know who the guitarist is that accompanies Rocio Molina in "Flamenco, Flamenco"?

Why is the dancer smoking or whatever? Seems random for an “artistic expression”

I'm sure I saw a new Garrotin on YouTube recently...By a current maestro.I can't recall who it was though. I'll have a look.

I find Garrotin a bit twee. If that's a word? Something a bit cheesy or weak about it. Probably cos I don't know/hear enough of it. Just some gimmicky stuff with a hat.

And that melody...?

Not within the last fifty years, since the blurb says 1963, but here's another duet, Sabicas accompanying Sabicas. Tio Sabas also recorded a garrotin accompanying Carmen Amaya.

That’s Rocio Molina.... she does some edgy artistic stuff... like this Alegrias (warning, very artistic photo!:

I can't find what I thought I was looking for.

But I found this.
I mean it's a contemporary garrotin performance I guess.

Not sure it's been 'recorded'

Ps.I forgot how to embed video. Can someone remind me?

Did Gerardo never record a single Garrotin while accompanying a singer? I was wondering if there might be one from the period (early in his career?) when he was in the studio so much.

Yeah, it's not the first palo I'd choose to play. But it's what my dance teacher is using in one of her classes, and this would be my first opportunity to accompany a singer.

Manolo Franco recorded one for his DVD series. In interview he said it was his "new album" but it doesn't have a stand alone audio release. Only 10 separate DVD/CD releases with slow versions etc.

Yes forgive me. That's great. I didn't mean to sound rude or derogatory.

I think I'm not that excited by it because of exactly what you've found out. They are all old versions. I think a decent contemporary garrotin would pique my interest! 😀

Thanks Jason, I am not on ios. I am using my phone however, but on android. I imagine the video issues are the same?'

I could post some audio clips of the Manolo Franco one (solo guitar and/or cante accompaniment), how much us allowed under fair use?

I'd definitely be interested in hearing clips; preferably of the solo guitar, unless the cante accompaniment is noteworthy.

In that case copy this, it’s pretty standard with some “modern falsetas” sprinkled in.

Manolo Franco solo is in drop D, will post a couple of clips in audio/video uploads section and paste link here.

The cante is accompanied in G standard tuning. Couple of short falsetas, one at the start and one in the middle between verses. Sounds like Arcangel singing, but I haven't checked (you don't see the singer on the video).

Daniel Casares playing Garrotin video that Stu posted up above (here embedded)

He has recorded it, under the title "Plaza de la Merced" on his album "Picassares"

To embed, just remember to check the "Embed picture in post" box

Another one - same "piece" but here close up (is he busking?!)

Good work Mark! 😀

Apparently that embedding only works via desktop browser. I never got round to playing up the pc to try. Thing seems pretty obsolete these days really. Just collecting dust.

Though Santiago's playing is obviously more impressive, that clip reminds me a little of this one I ran across from Argentina:
