Does anybody know whats happening with Luthier strings. Every retail or online outlet seem to be out of stock except for Luthier themselves at an inflated price.
There is information that Luthier strings is being transferred to another owner because as you probably know Mr. Tony Acosta (the original owner of Luthier strings company, Luthiermusic) has passed away last year.
Since then the shops have been out of stock again and again without really knowing if they were going to get another shipment. Now the Luthier company has stopped sending strings to the music shops and one of the big online sellers said that they might start getting more strings after the period of 3 months (when the transfer of the company is complete).
Most shops are not sure though that is why one or two online shops say that Luthier sets are discontinued.
I was too a great fun of Luthier strings (been using the Popular Supreme 20) and I am trying to find an alternative. A guy that owns a online string store in Europe told me that many professionals that used Luthier strings change to Oasis. They have a very reasonable price for the nylon sets, but I have not yet tried them because I am into Aquila for now searching for a good set to replace the Luthier (something like nylon but with body, presence and immediate response, long lasting and good intonation. Aquila sets certainly are do not sound "plastic" at all and even though I have not yet found the perfect set for me, it is a bit hard to go back to normal nylon after Aquila's intriguingly clear sound and ease.
I used to use Hannabachs that looked purple-ish and came in a paper package. The string quality and sound is almost identical to the Luthier Silvers I use. I switched to Luthiers because they were much cheaper, but if I can't get my hands on them anymore, I'll switch back to the Hannabachs.

I think that you mean the Sugar set or the Alchemia. The squeak had been fixed but it is not yet into production, so in a few months, or less, there will be Sugar and Alchemia sets with a yellow sticker that will say squeakless. The sets that do not have the sugar blended in, do not squeak
Edit: the advice is to rub the tips of your right hand with hand creme, not the whole string as this could result in less vibration of the string and affect its sound. In flamenco many players already rub their right hand fingers with some short of lubricant as Paco did, like Vaseline or something.
"Medical need" what a hilarious way to put it. I will have this in mind for future use if you do not mind.
The Alabastros are interesting but do not have enough "punch" for my taste, on my guitar. Also keep in mind that the luthier 20 has the same tension as the superior tension sets of Aquila.
