tap plate replacement cost?

What is a "ball park" figure for a luthier to replace a tap plate even with minor problems removing the old plate? Would it be as much as $200 U.S. dollars, or equivalent? Thanks

I think you can do it yourself.... and yes some will charge a good price so it’s worth it to learn how to do this. My learning curve is documented here.... please take note of comments and that I got much better at it following advice so that by the 3rd guitar I had it down

If it's an easy swap then I charge £65 - £70 these days.

The problem I have found is sometimes, no matter how careful you are, the polish lifts with plate. Especially where it gets hit a lot. Then you can add another £150 for the re finish of the top.

A local luthier told me he would charge $150 to put a tap plate on a classical guitar. Asked why so much, he said to get a clean edge cut all around the tap plate, it takes time, but could do cheaper if I am not picky about the edge. So if removing old plate is needed, cost would be more.

$90.00 US was a the rate of the best repair man in Northern Ca. in 1998 Twenty years ago. Today anywhere between $90 to $160 seems fair.

It's not always straight forward as player want to think. Your'e paying for a mechanics time.

If you bring to my place I show you how to do it for free

I agree time is $... but I am all for doing it together .... last time with a student it only took 1.5 hour to remove and replace

Thanks for the suggestions and info on costs. The estimate I have is a little higher than suggested here but in the "ball park" but have not seen the result yet. I was fortunate to find a guy in TN who knew about"tap plates" and even has an assortment of them. Pick guards for Gibson and Martins, etc.....yeah, they all know about them. Ricardo thanks for your generous offer, and if I were closer I would make the drive.

Thanks Ricardo. The tap plates on my 2 guitars are still in good shape. With the amount of golpe I use, it will be years before I need new ones.
