Female Guitar Players - WHERE ?!
a video Ramzi posted on fb interviewing a couple of women playing flamenco guitar reminded me of a question I've been asking myself for a veeeery long time: why aren't there any big and accomplished tocaoras? (is that even the right word? i'm no spaniard so feel free to correct me)
Do any of you know girls/women play flamenco or maybe even broke through a little?

Well, since she died when she was 19 or 20, you won't find any videos of her looking old. But yeah, she had promise. I don't think I've seen her play any accompaniment though, just solo. Anyone who gives a serious go at Sabicas gets a thumbs up from me.

I just meant the playing was quite impressive for her age... I was aware that she had passed away. Very sad. The vids of her playing some of the early PDL are the only ones I could find on YouTube (I only found her by googling the titles of things I have been picking off the recordings to "compare notes" (positions/fingerings etc.) with other people playing the same things).

Yeah finding good PDL material is ridiculously hard. Variable quality to say the least. Filtering out he-who-must-not-be-named helps a lot though. He's probably 70% of the PDL YouTube pollution all on his own

I thought her attack was brutal! In one of the previous threads someone made the comment that many female players lack a strong sound. Not so here. Muy flamenco!! Olee!!! Really sad she passed away so young

Hey it really works!!!!! Thanks a lot dudnote. Salvadora will be coming to my nick of the woods in January and I've asked her for some private lessons and I'm hoping she's willing to coach a singer I know as well. If this goes through these will be the first lessons I've ever taken with a player of note. El Paso Texas does not have any really good Flamenco artists so I'm very excited.

I can delete posts, but not whole threads, already tried this out. but this wasn't meant to be a butthurt "delete it", I just felt that it was repetitive and I could've searched for it but oh well 🤷♂️

this young girl really had huge potential and her attack was brutal. too bad she died this young :( i still think there should be more female guitarists than that.
