RE: Anybody in Seville currently? (in reply to gaozu

Hi Gaozu. I hope you are having a wonderful time there. Thank you for sharing your experience. I did try to find a way to piece together my education by travelling across parts of Andalusia, but couldn't do it due to visa restrictions. While getting a long-term visa to learn Spanish is a clever idea, it wouldn't work in my case. I have a well-paying job here in India. I am leaving it all behind to become a full time musician. Doing so to learn Spanish would set off an illegal immigration alert in the visa officer's mind and they are pretty serious about it here. I do plan to travel to other parts of Spain and learn techniques on weekends and during breaks though. Maybe we can even meet and exchange our experience there. Thanks again.

Hi Vipul. I reside in Delhi, although currently I am travelling across India. Pleased to meet you too. I tried the traditional route of life and while it was not bad at all, I had to give music a chance. While I did not know about David Leiva, I was pleased to learn that Yagos Santos offers Skype lessons, as he is an excellent player in my opinion. I have PMed you my email ID so that we can stay in touch. I wish you all the best.

I am all set to travel to Spain on 15th September, 2017. Currently travelling across India. I would be glad to help out anyone with information as I learn from my own experience. I shall also post about my major experiences here.

Great news, you will have a wonderful time, I am sure... and welcome to Europe in September!

Yep, I started their guitar course in 2012 and dropped out literally within a few days. I was 44 at the time, and could see that I just couldn't pick up stuff fast enough, learning eye-eye, ear-to-ear. I suspect that too much wine and other things have gone under the bridge, so to speak :-)

I could play basic rasgueos, picado, knew the compás of the basic palos, but still I could feel that there was too much variation in the abilities in the class.

While the fastest students were picking up falsetas after being shown a few times, I was still fumbling around 10 mins later. I realized that this was not my definition of 'fun', And this was the easy stuff, in the first week!

If you have been learning flamenco on your own at your own pace, as I had, with no pressure to pick up things quickly, then the very best thing you could do is to use the month you have left to stick on some YouTube videos on falsettos, compás variations.. anything flamenco-guitarist really, and challenge yourself to pick them up in the shortest time possible, with the fewest rewinds possible. Really dig dip, focus, concentrate and get your brain up to speed. Take frequent breaks.

I was so gutted, since I knew that the course was going to be *amazing*, even after a couple of days. Seriously.

You are younger and sharper than I was, so you will have an easier ride, I'm sure. I ended taking private lessons, at my own pace, but being around all the other students, artists, dancers etc would have been better.

Best of luck with it.. it's going to be great.. I'm totally jealous :-)
