Interesting. I guess the diameters of the trebles are the same but one has been corrected to three decimal places. Tension is a less reliable piece of data because it depends on the scale length on which it was measured. I don't want to make a big deal of this - it was just something that intrigued me.

I find judging small differences very difficult, especially as it takes a day or so for strings to settle down when you change them (even when used). I just got a great bargain Reyes blanca - I have dreamt of this for many years. I put EJ45s on and I can't imagine that anything would make it sound and feel better. My 65 Conde is strung up with the same kind. Experiments with other guitars took me to Savages Corum Alliance.

Good luck with your experiments. Don't spend too much money!

I honestly feel you are not giving differing string brands enough credit. Of course there are many factors but IMO strings turn out to be a big huge one, along with humidity. For a concrete example check what transpired in the recent "annoying sound on my guitar" thread, which seems to be directly related to string brands:

OK – I don’t want to suggest that all strings are the same and I accept that there can be issues with bass stings not working very well on particular guitars. There is great variety in construction of basses with various combinations of core material, windings and coatings.

However with treble strings, leaving aside rectified strings, there is much less variation. The nylon and fluorocarbon are just melted chips of the material squirted though an orifice. In the case of clear nylon I don’t think that there is much difference apart from diameter and I still think that la Bella 427 and EJ45 trebles are more or less the same.

I am not sure if all (any?) string manufacturers have their own machines for extrusion or whether they just buy in bulk. The price in China for Nylon monofilament for musical instrument strings is $3-7 per kg (minimum order 1000 kg)

Similar nylon and fluorocarbon materials are used for fishing lines. I seem to remember that someone tried using these but found it difficult to get a matching set of trebles with the appropriate diameters.
