Thumb problem

The skin on my right thumb right next to the nail, where it contacts string, is damaged and peels off. I try to use a new-skin liquid but it does not hold for long (actually about 20 min). I am wondering if a lubricant such as Vaseline would be a better option. Has anybody experienced a similar problem? Thank you.

That sounds terrible. I'm sorry.
Have you tried CA? (Cyanoacrylate/super glue)

It wasn't quite clear from your post how long you've had the problem, if it is recurrent and how dangerous it is to your career.

If it is a temporary problem and your amateur then just give the pulgar and alzapua a rest and work on picado, legado and rasgueado.

If it's a long term problem or you're a pro with a gig tonight then good luck!!

Thank you guys,

It mostly practice, we have jams on weekends and once in a while accompanying dancers (my career is not in jeopardy, I hope :).
I have this thing going for about a week and I will get a long rest sparing the thumb from the string action.
