Todd fired a shot across Estela's bow over at F-T. She returned fire and hit him broadside. I'll have to concede to those that didn't want to invite him here. You were right and I was wrong.

Both of those are firecrackers. Todd is more prone to spontaneous immolation, though :)
Estela can be a little impatient with us guitarists at times, but she doesn't call people names and she takes the time to anwer questions or correct people about things that she's probably said a hundred times before on other forums. There's no one else that posts here that knows as much about Flamenco as she does and is willing to share it. I've verified some of the things she's said with knowledgeable people in Jerez and have yet to find her to be wrong. You may not know this, but she can sing, dance, and play the guitar (but not at the same time). And, due to her job or just her 'aficion', she's exposed to more Flamenco than even the most avid aficionado in Spain.
Todd, on the other hand, is an exceptionally talented all around guitarist, but he knows very little about Flamenco.

You can't imagine what it feels like to be called a "firecracker" at my age . Thank you Phil for your supportive message however, and I've taken note that I sometimes show impatience with guitarists.
I never really followed that forum closely enough to get a bead on who Todd was, but one person sent me a sound file of his playing and it was shaky on compás, so I'm not inclined to take him too seriously as a source of information. I go out of compás too, but I don't record those moments or convert them to sound files to be publicly circulated.

Personally, I enjoy Estela's posts because they are very informative and come from the source of Flamenco. As for her personality, she has always been helpful and polite and thats more than you can ask for on the internet. Now, I greatly respect Todd as a musician and as a person(from what I have gotten in talking to him beyond the forums) But I feel he has misinterpreted Estela's passion for flamenco and her strength as a writer to mean that she is aloof or condescending. This is clearly an error of attribution that was caused by the internets weak representation of speech.

Estela, if you want to "take his temperature", why don't you ask him if he can accompany a letra of bulerias, fandangos or even tangos
He can take his own temperature, he's a big boy. There's no law that says you have to like cante, but the guitar solo I heard had very shaky compás, and *that's* against the law.

Andy, let's remember that maybe half of the members on this forum have never accompanied anyone! Flamenco is big enough, in my opinion, to accomodate all types. Most Americans who get into this stuff get into it because of virtuoso guitar! From there to cante is a long road. I never liked cante at all until I spent this summer in Sevilla...now I love it! But everyone has their own path to follow. Let's not get down on those who come from different backgrounds, but whose love of flamenco is just as strong.

... and after Tomatatito' gig last night, I am going down AndyB and Estela's camino. The difference between his solo pieces and those with La Potito singing was dramatic shift in experience for me. Review to follow

Hi All
'Todd-the-Terrible strikes again' (With star rating!)
I think this is unfair. I had some bad experience of Todd over on F-T and I don't visit there now, but this is a member's forum and if he visited here, he would read this heading and not be able to read further. Lets please get off this Todd thing, he records well, be it with a pick or be it digitally enhanced through his dads computer, I don't care. Thanks Jim.

Ron:
You mean the one where the dancer whirls into the headstock of your guitar? In American football, it's a simple encroachment penalty, but if she manages to thwap your head... it's personal! If the dancer is female, I like it :-)

Jim;
I must agree with you! It would be nice to not discuss others. If you really must discuss other people why not use a private e-mail? Not everyone agrees with such discussions.
