I have found my personal way for building guitars in the last years, but I’m still interested how other builders do. The foro here is my favorite source for such information’s. I read most the relevant books out there. I watch YouTube videos and I purchase the video from Anders here in the fore view years ago. O the website from O´Brien guitars I have now found a Video Online Flamenco Guitar Building Course. The Luthier in this video is Paco Chorobo. Have anybody seen this video? I’m interested in his work!

Anders, Flamenco Guitar building is my basic interest, but I build also classical guitars (80%/20%). Do you know Paco Choroba, I don’t know where he is located exactly in Andalucía, maybe not far away from your shop?

I dont know Choroba He is located in Úbeda which is some 400km from here. A very pretty small Rennaissance town.
I think there´s little flamenco specific litterature on the market. On Spanish guitars, I like David Schrams online course where he builds a Herman Hauser classical. (called onlineapprentice ) Its a beginners step by step guide. It is a very traditional Spanish approach. I build more or less like that and most builders here the same. And the difference between a Torres/Hauser classical and a modern flamenco guitar is very small. All the rest, the neck angle, the voicing, the pulsation etc. I cant imagine it can be taught online or in a book.

The truth is, you only can find these out with practice and building guitars, that is right! I see the videos and books more like an kind of entertainment. Some information could included in my work others not. Yes 260 Dollars are a lot for entertainment!

I bought the books from Cumpliano and Courtnall since they were the most recommended and had high reviews. I find them to be almost useless as they are skimpy on details and skipping some steps entirely and really are just an overview. Also some of the techniques seem outdated. That David Schram course looks to be much better.

I have not seen Chorobas course, so i dont want to sound negative because I know nothing about it but I agree, and maybe the point is that you are to far into your building carreer to really get enough out of courses that cost 260,-$. You have to find other ways to be entertained.
Cervantes, the Schramm course is much closer to how most spanish guitars are being built nowadays, but when i read the Cumpliano and Nathelson book many year ago, I found it interesting and with some good ideas and points here and there.

All books and advice from other luthiers are only for guidelines. The most important details like neck angle and fretboard preparation etc. you can learn only from building your own guitars. From guitar 1 to 10 there is a huge step of improvement. After that it slows down,hopefully when you build your guitar 300 you are near to perfection, but never perfect!

This may be true for some builders but we're well past 400 and the current ones are better than the ones 100 guitars back. We're still experimenting and I have some ideas on how to make more improvements.

When I made a new nut for my guitar, Andy summarized it for me in a few sentences in an email that covered the whole process in detail. Two thick books had virtually no information on how to do it, almost as if they assumed you already knew how to do it. I am sure a lot can only be learned from experience and I have none but hoping to start on guitar #1 soon.
