Found the mother lode of Flamenco gu...
I have been having the itch to upgrade my guitar. I found a 1990 Conde blanca for sale locally so I arranged to see it today. What I didn't know was that I would also have an encounter with a treasure trove of other flamenco guitars.
First the Conde, well it was orange as they are. It the lightest guitar I ever played. It is a "segunda" or I guess mid range model made by who knows where. It had some repairs on the back. I would say it did have have a Conde sound although I have never heard one in person. The sound was simple, fundamental, direct and woodsy. Single notes sounded pretty nice but rasgueados were very lacking.
So then he showed me a Graciliano Perez negra he just bought. It was nice but I am not into negras.
After that he brings out a Vicente Carillo blanca and says this is my best guitar and that PDL played a similar guitar on one of his albums. This guitar was quite heavy and was an absolute cannon. Huge sound you could feel the power when playing it. Very controlled though, no distortion, just big sound.
Next one is a Tom Blackshear blanca, he bought used from Guitar Center believe it or not. Strings were dead so couldn't really get an idea of the sound, but it was beautifully crafted and flawless.
So I won't be buying the Conde but it was a great learning experience.

the old saying, you only get one chance to make a first impression. So true, and if you want to sell a guitar, you should put good, fresh strings, at least on the bass. It takes a good ear to recognize the potential in a guitar with dead strings. That could be a topic for discussion.

The Blackshear had old strings and it wasn't for sale.
