My photo of the week 72

Been a while since I posted a photo. Here's one from December taken on an iPhone (hence the sky being blown out) but hey, it caught my eye when walking the dog in my local park.

Is this a new feature? I hope so, it will save a fair amount of work.

Beautiful photo, BTW: I’m amazed at the image quality.

Beautiful photo, Simon. Not to get too dramatic, but the way you captured the light playing off the clouds on the left and off the trees and vegetation reminds me of the 19th century Hudson River School of painting in America. Of course, the subject matter was very different--exploration and panoramic wilderness landscapes in America, but the way you captured the light could have been painted by Albert Bierstadt or Thomas Cole.

your i phone seems to have captured the colours fairly well
Like a William Turner painting if it was in oils

Yes, I have been remiss in not fixing this before. I am always editing and resizing my own photos, but it saves others some work. Anders pointed out a massive image recently, so I hacked the code to limit display sizes.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Thanks Bill. I looked them up and see what you mean. I am a sucker for light, photography is painting with light, after all, but a lot of people completely forget that core truth. A decent image pops up in front of me every few weeks, but not when I go looking for them.

One doesn't need an expensive camera, but I have collected quite a few :-)

Thanks. Post-processing in Lightroom usually does the trick.

I agree with Bill there is Hudson River school vibe, but the light is mysterious too.

I was thinking about this photo yesterday and it also brought to mind Jacob van Ruysdael Albrecht Altdorfer and Caspar David Friedrich because the light is kind of other worldly.

I like the blown out sky.
It give the image a painting like picture quality. Who want perfect realism. Your own eyes see something different every split second.
