I don't get it....first chords in 13 years? Like they haven't had a concert there in 13 years?? And put the capo differently?? I'm lost....
RE: Vicente Amigo New Album in Spring (in reply to James)
oh my god, why did I keep reading it as "primeros acordes EN 13 anos".... jeez I need glasses. I don't know if I'd describe Vicente's playing as thunder and lightening....more like silk and butter for me. lol

I agree, Lenny. I know I will catch hell for this, but Vicente's playing is pretty anodyne, in my opinion. Not much to get excited about.

I think he means that he put his capo on a different fret relatively to the other guitarist, hence the guitars sounding so strange.

Google translator!!
Quite sure the diario de Cordoba translated that phrase from an english magazine or newspaper...
Probably something like: When he transposed things in a different way and "sounded like lightning"

No offense guys but this is perfect fuel for the "you guys aren't Spanish nor flamenco so no sabe a distinguir" type Morante fires.
Cejilla is also referring to how we transpose with the index finger to new tonalities...basically, in context of flamenco guitar world his new sound and style playing in new keys caught on and was majorly impactful on, you know, guys in Spain that know how to play.

Es okay, another qualood.....he'll love me in the morning. Sometimes I get Morante, a guy in the gym started trying to tell me Slipknot is the best metal band ever and I nearly lost it on him. Good thing I'm NOT Spanish, I like properly cooked steak and Mexican food too much. Lol

If I remember correctly, "cejilla" also means barre chords. But I don't think it's very significant that how the writer of the article writes. I just hope this album is going to be nothing like the previous one and with flamenco instruments only

in the end who cares what that journalist meant, Vicente's playing and writing are unique and he's worthy of all the attention he gets
he's not only a great guitarist, he can write a memorable hook along with the best of them. it doesn't matter the genre, people want something they can hang on to and Vicente delivers in spades

Vicente Amigo is neither up to the standards of the past greats--Sabicas, Paco de Lucia, et.al,--nor the current up and comers like Antonio Rey. Vicente Amigo is an anodyne guitarist who is competent, but not great. His playing is the flamenco equivalent of elevator music.

Absolutely ridiculous...listen to Jose merce's album or the duet with PDL. Sabicas?

I anticipated catching hell for my opinion of Vicente earlier in this thread, Ricardo, but there it is.

Cheers for bravery at least Bill. I actually like most of VA's stuff a lot I just don't think the analogy of "lightening" is quite right. It's smooth not.....thunderess.

Just to clarify, it's not that I don't like Vicente. But as I stated above, in my opinion there are others, past and present, who were and are better. It's just that I don't get excited over his playing, and consequently I can't get excited over his new album.

Nobody is giving "hell" here. Everyone is free to like or not like whatever they hell they want. But to insinuate a top artist is "not up to standards" of their peers is simply false.
RE: Vicente Amigo New Album in Spring (in reply to James)
Yes, this is just not correct. Vicente is an incredible player and I actually can't think of anyone who can imitate his style- it's such a combination of natural talent, skill and uniqueness. His rhythmic playing is fearsome and his accompaniments are sensitive and creative. I personally do think some of his later compositions are a bit 'anodyne' as you put it. But as a player...blinding.

It was just a turn of phrase, Ricardo, meant to convey the notion that no one would ever confuse my taste in flamenco with that of most members of the Foro.
Cheers,
Bill

It's a polite defensive statement that precedes the typical stink bombs.

well, the word trueno (thunder) was not used. however, sonaba a rayos can be underststood as "he kicked ass" (or for the kiddies nowadays, "he was the s.h.i.t")
it's a figure of speech not to be taken literally
albeit, i would say his playing can be explosive, like his rageo morote which can be super duper fast, steady and loud (not unlike Antonio Rey)
