Ricardo Fernandez del Moral

Ricardo Fernandez del Moral, "guitarrista y cantaor"

He won 5 (!!) awards on 2012 Festival de Cante de las Minas (La Union)

After that he recorded "Yo solo"

Soleares (not Solea)

I hallucinate with this man. Totally recommended for those who still don't know Ricardo...

What, exactly, do you think is the difference?

The guy is pretty good....something always lacks when the singer accompanies himself por solea or siguiriya vs with a good accompanist.

He used to acompany a friend of mine on the guitar. Good player, great voice but I agree with Ricardo, many times seems like something is missing. So difficult to sing and play at the same time

Yes: for one thing, it means he can’t get the correct hand-position (see below).

Soleares is just the plural of soledad.

Didn't know this guy, thanks for posting.

Sometimes we speak about solea in generic mode.

But if you sing differents styles of solea (triana, alcala, cadiz,) on the same "cante", in my opinion it should be called "soleares" instead of "solea". But I think nowadays we usually use "solea".
:-)

On the basis that everyone knows it's so difficult to sing and play at the same time (especially on "palos a compas")....I think this man is....different?

You are correct that you may call the performance Soleares, and can enforce your opinion by doing so, but you can't really say it is "NOT" solea.

"Solea" and "soleares" are used interchangeably. There is no difference. They both refer to the same palo.

Totally agree with you Ricardo...It's a solea...

In fact, I always say "solea" but....I had heard some people distinguishing between solea and soleares.

IMO distinguish between solea and soleares could be logic...although nowadays everyone called solea.

Thank you for your comments.

Thanks for posting that. I enjoyed it.

In the future, I think his performances would be better if he gained a lot of weight and became fat like Terremoto.

Logic applied to a traditional art form? Ehhhh, I would avoid that. Here's an example:

Buleria cante has half compases all the time. There is no reason logically to keep 12's for Solea as the structure is the exact same, just a slower speed. So I should be able to cut compas all the time for solea and Alegria too....guess what any or all singers will say about your compas?
