quote:
Good to hear all your opinions. More uploads, less off topic stuff! Actually, flamenco-related discussions, uploads, etc. and off-topic discussions are not mutually exclusive. It is not a zero-sum game where more of one means less of the other. I like the fact that there are members of the Foro who enjoy and engage in flamenco-related discussions and activity, yet have a variety of other interests which they discuss in the off-topic section. Ricardo always has something important to post on flamenco topics, and he is equally interesting to read when he posts comments on physics, the cosmos, and science in general in the off-topic section. Likewise with Richard and Stephen, whether its science and logic or politics and international relations. Or the blues and other musical genres for that matter. Those members who post in both the flamenco-related topic sections and the off-topic section display a breadth of interests that add to the Foro. And anyone who wishes to upload may do so at any time. We all appreciate that.

I think a lot of people these days have internet fatigue, the internet is not so novel any longer. I was just thinking about the first time I used the internet, it was in 1990 in Alexandria Virginia, ( just after Al Gore famously invented it..) It was what 25 years ago, then the first flamenco chat site popped up about 1996-97 there were epic battles on the Temple list. Ricardo disagrees with me, but I found it interesting, it was fresh and there were all these older seasoned afcionados arguing and joking. It also had a great deal of flak shooting, off topic subjects like cooking and arguments over cooking etc. And trolls, and nasty people. I found it very stimulating and I learned a lot, or I learned about new subjects and I asked my older friends about topics I had read about. I think the ratio of BS to substance was about the same as today, but the substance was more cante oriented. I still find a great deal of the off topic subject interesting, finding out other peoples interests outside flamenco. I think that main difference is the shift from the core of discussion being about cante' to guitar playing. The guitar talk is intense and there's a lot of it.
