Hi from Bretagne

Hi and nice to find you,

I'am beginner in Flamenco and somehow quite beginner in guitar too dispite the years of attempts and years of stops between them.

I have more love for the object instrument and also provide me another dimension on music listening and appreciation from trying to play that real expectation to play much good but I get pleasure out of playing few notes and even from time to time (rarely) surprise myself playing seconds nicely.

I felt in love with Flamenco for it really expressive and pulse and how this music push the guitar at it's great place.

I love this instrument from how much rich emotions, tones, energy range it may produce while being also quite common and popular.

My quest is first to learn and practice more Flamenco and also find my lovely guitar to accompany me on that road.

I got months ago an old Esteve 50th classic destroyed by a furious flamenco guitarist. If you stuck at the first frets and play bossa, that sounds pretty nice but by time I understood what untuned means and also string upper than 2cms from the board makes your life harder.
I got recently an Hohner blanca, for sure cheap but compared to the poor choice we have in France and the hard time to try stuff here, it saves me to practice but don't fullfill my dreams for sure.

I am also very much interested in learning about lutherie and planing to built one for fun, I am like this, I need to know everything in details.

If you're ever down visiting Nantes check out the classes run by Planta Tacon, http://yaka.free.fr/v2/ - really friendly bunch of people, they enthusiastically invited me to join in a cajon lesson last time I was there.

If you search for "foro map" in the archives you'll find a link to a google map showing roughly where foro member are (no need to be super precise). It would be great to see more people in France showing up on that map.

Salut flamango, je récemment rejoint le forum aussi. De temps en temps j'habite à Ploulec'h près de Lannion - je commue a partir du Royaume-Uni avec une vieille Valeriano Bernal Gitano attaché sur le côté de mon moto

Si vous venez en Cotes D'Armor quelquefois, peutêtre on pourrait rencontre pour un cafe?

Welcome Flamango,

since a while stuck to only 2 TV channels for technical reasons, I am watching TV5 Monde (where subtitles help me overcome my very rudimentary French skills) and with that seeing introductive documentaries on French provinces.
Me used to visit the capitol and the southern coast / think not much of the Bretagne.

Now learning through TV5 how diverse and beautiful this region actually is.

In respect of guitars, keep in mind that any climate away from average humidity values makes it worthwhile to respect its relevance. I estimate that you may be having rather high values there, which could also correspond to the string hight and bad intonation you describe with the Esteve (possibly fom top sunken in). (-BTW, my first own guitar was a Hohner. Quite a dud.)

So, should you come to aquiring yourself a better guitar, try to avoid specimens built in rather dry climate. Should it be from Spain, for instance origin of Valencia may be rather suiting, and costal stems like say with shops in Granada.

These days shops can be humidity controlled (duriing assembly), but your best bet are second hand guitars (unless you go with one of the luthiers on the foro, which means great bang for the buck), and those if older / vintage may have been built under natural conditions.
